I've a 2009 Abbey Vogue Tourer, and I want to holiday in Scotland this Year (August).
I need some guidance on the best places to see Scotland without going to far North i.e The Highlands. I fancy seeing Edinburgh. Any suggestions would be great.
Many thanks in advance.
Edinburg Caravan Club site This is a great site, bus stop to Edinburgh a short walk or there is a mini bus service on site. In August best to book because of the Edinburgh fringe and Tatoo.
West side for me, Fort William etc, plenty to see and do around there. Ben Nevis etc and don't miss the road from Fort William to Mallaig, scenery is fabulous.
I would have to bear in mind that he midges will still be around in August so would be no go for me as I cannot stand them and neither can my body! So I am going in mid Sept
Been to the Highlands/West Coast many times and loved it, there is so much to see and do.
But - you don`t have to go too far to have a good time. We did Dumfries and Galloway a few years ago and really enjoyed it (it was always somewhere we `passed through` rather than a `destination`, that proved to be a mistake on our part)
For a first trip into Heaven, oops, sorry, Scotland, I would suggest that you look at Ayrshire, or Dumfries & Galloway, or the Borders.
Plenty to see and do and websites such as
http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/
well tell you all that is on in whatever area you choose.

I'm disappointed - it took 4 posts before the dreaded midgie was mentioned. Dont know how we in the west coast survive!
Anyway, Dumfries and Galloway, the Trossachs area, Perthshire. All lovely, not too far North and all lovely.
I know the feeling. Only lived on the West Coast for 60 odd years and I got more mosquito bites on one 2 week holiday in Majorca than I have ever had midge bites in Scotland.
But seriously, if someone is coming up to Heaven for the first time and doesn't want to tackle the Highlands, then the Borders will give them plenty to choose from.

Unless I had tickets for the Tattoo and/or the Fringe, I would be steering well clear of Edinburgh in August.
How wrong can you be. Edinburgh is buzzing in August. So much to do and see with the fringe on and lots of it is free.
East coast is great ... IMHO too many people miss it in favour of the West Coast.
For Edinburgh I would choose one of the following:
Edinburgh CC Site
Yellowcraigs CC Site outside North Berwick (train into town)
Dunbar C&CC Site (again train into town)
Lauder C&CC Site (bus into town)
or
Balbirnie Park CC Site at Markinch in Fife (station in the village right into town and you get to cross the Forth Rail Bridge)
I would think Balbirnie is most likely to have spaces in August. It is a great site and the wardens are wonderful.
Edinburgh during festival time is wonderful.

Also try Yellowcraig sands / bent....great spot with lovely beach
