Now i have the courage to admit what i did the other week. I was moving pitch (seasonal) I had to move the axle stands wheel locks then came the hitch lock, I put the key in and only half a turn,There was 5 of us trying to get this hitch lock off! we hit it with a hammer thinking the lock was sized up, we WD40 it, oiled it, got 2 monkey wrenches to try and turn the barrel,My van had to be moved within the hr, as someone was going on this pitch! After 2 and a half hours Panic!! So the site manager went to get his sthil cutter! I dont know why, but i tried another key that was in the van, guess what, The lock unlocked!Did I get the pi*s took out of me all week!So they now call me Billy the key!
Where the other 2 keys came from or what they are for i havent got a clue.
So lesson learned, make sure that you are using the right key on ya locks.
------------- Roughing it in style at Calloose caravan and camping holiday park nr St Ives.(seasonal pitch)
Its not a hangover, its wine flu!
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
A very similar thing happened to us about 4 years ago to which my wife did the same as you. We went on a day trip by coach to Weston-Super-Mare to see the carnival of lights procession along the promenade and my wife asked her sister if she could come to the house in the afternoon just to let the dog out. After she agreed my wife gave her the front door key and told her to post it back through the front door afterwards. We returned about 2 am. in the morning but no key on the floor and the dog had done a No. 2 in the kitchen. Too late to phone her sister so had to wait till the next day. We went to collect the front door key the next day and on return the first thing she did was try the key in the front door but no success. It turns out that my wife had only gone and give her sister the back door key instead and the back gate was bolted up securely. Well, you can imagine my comments. I said, "Well why didn't you try the bloody thing in the door first instead of taking it for granted". Her reply was, "Well, I'm only human!"
Having the wrong key can be a simple mistake but the hassle it can cause can be a nightmare. I've got sympathy for you anyway 'Billy the Key'.
While touring and moving on I took off the hitchlock reversed car to hitch Try I as I might I could not get caravan to engage on tow ball
And then I wound it up somemore pulled handle and the dummy ball fell out... DOH
The first time I tried setting up my new sattelite dish, I spent ages with no luck, then I noticed I had put the lnb on the wrong way round pointing away from dish, even i had to laugh
How about the person (No names but not a million miles away from THIS keyboard) who put the shaped shaft to the Secure Wheel Lock (you know, that lump of metal that marries up with the threaded lump at the bottom of the tube)
in a very safe place at the end of the season.
Come the following Spring, could that safe place be found???.
Luckily the AlKo factory had the details of the lock (it had been Registered) and a new 'key' could be ordered. cost £35 at which point the old key miraculously turned up.
Took weeks to live that down and the earache to subside
------------- How come when some people visit the fountain of knowledge, they only gargle!!!
I spent an afternoon, evening and odd times all night getting very annoyed about a house alarm that kept going off. My wife asked if it was our caravan alarm, oops, I had no idea it was set.
------------- We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.

I've attached the dummy ball to the hitch lock with a length of guy rope glued to the hitch lock. It stops that mistake.
