Hi
Weve just purchased a 1996 sterling sprite 2 berth. Weve discovered that the leisure battery is dead but as weve took it out the compartment have found another set of positive and negative terminals. Tracing these back i have found that they are connected to a 12v transformer plug which is randomly under the inside bench. The plug is not in a socket or anything. Has this been used to charge the battery? Under the bench there is a box which the main lead goes to which has battery charger written on which is switched on which i think should be charging the battery when connected to mains hook up but this doesnt appear to be working as the battery isnt charged but all the electrics work when hooked up.
Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question but we are new to this!
Regards
It's possible that the leisure battery being a shallow cycle battery is so far discharged that it won't re-charge again either by a charger at home or the onboard charger in the caravan. You need a multi meter and check the condition of the battery voltage but realistically you need a 'smart' charger to charge a leisure battery as a standard car battery charger is likely to over charge it causing gassing which in turn boils the acid which can buckle the internal lead plates. If you read the information in the link it gives you an insight about leisure battery maintenance.
