It all depends on what you want in reference to breakdown cover on the caravan. Most car based breakdown recovery will attend to the caravan ONLY if it is attached to the car, & then only for such things like a puncture. They will not for instance recover the van from a site if your car has to be recovered back to the UK due to something that happened while you are out sightseeing . Purely personal but I would never travel Europe without a breakdown service such as the CC red pennant or the C&CC equivalent as they are specifically devised with caravanners in mind.
however Britannia or the German company ADAC are very good alternatives although not quite as comprehensive as the CC or C&CC they are a lot cheaper . Whatever you do please read the terms & conditions thoroughly before you buy. Repatriation recovery on most CAR based recovery companies is also based on the market value of your car. If the cost of bringing back your car exceeds the market value then they will not recover the car OR the caravan

I take it it's just breakdown cover you are after and not insurance, if it's breakdown try here

Thank you for the information which was quite helpful.

I have just been on the web page to get a quote for the breakdown and it works out at £32.00 which is very cheap as CC is £139.00  not sure whether to go with it yet as I need to feel confident that we will be covered.

Going to also look at UK cover as at the moment we have Mayday with CC at £95.00 for the year

Can I suggest you read the small print before you buy any cover some companies have a max weight and length as I found out too late.

You only get what you pay for with travel / breakdown insurance .
If you want all eventualities covered C.C Red Pennant is by far the best or Aria insurance through the C&CC.

I looked in great detail last year at European Caravan breakdown cover and my findings were:

Most companies wouldn't cover my van as it was over 7m long.

Some would recover the car but not allow you to return to the campsite to collect the caravan.

Some would arrange for you to come home and send a lorry to collect the car and caravan at a later date and advise you when they ould be returned to the UK.

Result - I joined the caravan club just for their European Breakdown insurance and will be using it again this year.

It will cover punctures to your caravan/trailer. But it wont cover the caravan breaking down.

Check the terms and conditions.

Quote: If your vehicle breaks down whilst towing a caravan or trailer we will recover your vehicle together with the caravan or trailer.
You must carry a serviceable spare tyre and wheel for
your vehicle, caravan or trailer, if it is designed to
carry one.

Check the policy wording. INSURED VEHICLE...

The caravan is not the insured vehicle. So the same problem as the other posts. If the caravan breaks down your stuck.

It wont be covered.
