My caravan came with a 15m length of food grade hose to connect caravan directly to a tap on site. I keep the hose in the van wet locker and it smells a bit, it will have had traces of water in it from when it was used last. Is there an easy way to sterilise it using a Milton solution.Apart from the bath, I don't have anything else to submerge it in.
Get a bucket/bowl and sterilising solution or tablets and pump the water through it. Let it sit for 5 minutes or so then pump the water through again. Repeat until its soaked for an hour.
Or use your water container. Drop the solution in that and pump water through the hose back to the container.
Make up a solution of Puriclean. Block off one end of the pipe. Keep one end of pipe higher than the blocked off end and use a funnel to pour liquid down the pipe. Keep agitating the pipe to release the air and allow liquid to fill all of the pipe. When the pipe is full keep open end up and leave for the recommended time for Puri clean to work. Then flush through with clean water.
Grampian, there is no pump. One end of the hose goes on a tap, the other into the caravan. The water pressure from the tap drives the water into the caravan.
Possibly just make up a solution with Miltons, get a small bore funnel and pour into the hose, connect to tap and flush through. Might work, but then might not of course.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Hi, find something to plug one end of hose [ie clean bolt or similar] keep to one side. flush out pipe with clean tap water to remove worst of debris. fill clean bowl or bucket with 5 litres clean water place on table/bench or worktop now siphon small amount of water into glass bowl or jug [ don't swallow the water].put thumb over hose to stop flow then add puriclean or similar to bucket this will turn water cloudy allow water to siphon again until cloudy water flows into glass jug then plug lower end of hose. hose is now filled with treated water leave to soak awhile then flush hose with fresh water
Buy some home brew sterilising powder and mix up a bucket full tip it down the hose leave for 10 mins or so then rinse it out.
I did the same last night but it was a smaller pipe ... hic
If you have an aquaroll then just feed the hose into it, tie a bit of string onto it if you're worried about being able to fish it out, fill with water and sterilising tablets and both things are done at the same time.
Some folk just worry too much. Ive never heard of anyone dying because their hose wasnt up to spec. Many sites just have a regular garden hose to fill up with.
The water is in it for milliseconds as it passes through, and has no chance to 'pick anything up', unless the hose is stored in a cesspit!
All this food grade stuff is a racket to get folk to pay more.
