Hi All, I have a 2013 Coachman VIP fitted with a Sharp microwave. Shortly after using it, we noticed the door and the inside of microwave onto which door shuts was becoming marked,it was almost as if the 2 surfaces were shorting. The microwave was changed by Coachman for an identical model, after little use this one has gone the same. Has anyone else had a similar problem, it seems strange we have had two doing the same thing. I am a bit concerned about using it, is it leaking?or am I worrying too much?We don't know wether contact Sharp, and see if they can sort, or just cut our losses and get a differant one all together.

In what way did the door and space into which it closes get marked?

There is nothing to short circuit between the door and the housing - together the door and housing form an RF sealed cavity. There is a microswitch in the door lock mechanism to prevent the RF energy being generated when the door is open for safety reasons.

The RF energy from the Klystron enters the cavity at the top roughly in the middle of the unit. If you look there you should find an area covered with a stiffened cardboard type material.

It is important to keep the door interior clean and also the recess in the microwave housing into which the door closes so as to ensure a good seal from an RF point of view. Any remnants of food or dirt will compromise this.

Hope this helps.

Best Regards

David

Hi david8858 - it's hard to explain, but on the surface of the door and the part of the cabinet onto which the door butts up against is marked with a kind of powdery residue. When this is wipped away it leaves a permenant mark. I understand the need to keep door and surfaces clean, but this happened the first time we used the original microwave , and also the replacement.

I have the same microwave fitted to my 2014 coachman pastiche. I suspect these marks, which are also on mine, may be caused by movement of the door when towing.

The problem with my microwave is that the third unit has also failed in that the turntable stops turning. The turntable locator comes loose. I am now waiting for the fourth unit.

Anyone else had a similar problem?

Hi Dr 15 it seems strange that you have had a simillar problem. I too thought about movement of the door, but I have spoken to 2 friends who have the same van as us and they have had no problems. I have since changed my van to a Bailey Unicorn which is fitted with a Daehoo micro wave.  I ahve towed some 200 miles ,a nd touch wood, to adte have had no problems.  Further comment swill be interesting.
