Hi I am looking for some guidance as we are new caravanners due to pick up over van next week. I work in insurance but am finding the whole breakdown cover thing a nightmare. We are qoing to insure our caravan best quotes so far from caravan guard and camping and caravan club. But the minefield is breakdown cover. Our car is covered with the AA through out bank account and covers the caravan whilst being towed. But my dilemma is do I insure the caravan for breakdown in the uk all the time not just when towed. Added to that we are going to France for 2 weeks in the summer. I will need to take single trip cover for the car and the caravan for this but such a lot of varying prices: can anyone let me have the benefit of their knowledge to point me in the right direction. Thanks Sue
this has been discussed on here a lot .
you will probably find as i did that cover through a third party i.e bank account or insurance company does not cover you for either recovery or indeed even a puncture on the caravan ,
with either the AA or RAC .in fact it cost me my holiday last year as we only found out at the last minute .i have since cancelled my rac cover and gone with green flag who offer the best service imho .
you can of course go with one of the dedicated recovery systems through the caravan clubs it depends how deep your pockets are .
a friend of mine has just had his volvo tow car written off in italy and he is with RED PENNANT and they are apparently sending a car over from the u.k to bring them and the caravan back ,so sounds like a good company .
