hi new to site
ive searched high and low on the internet. I have a 1980's cosolt piper 1200 recently renovated but the plate that should have specs for wieghts is missing. im wondering if any1 who may of owned one in the past has the knowlage im after unlaiden wieght and user payload. im not concerned about tow car power as dont really feel it on back of a 130bhp mondeo just putting too much load inside 1 woman 1 7 year old girl and 1 baby girl = lots of luggadge and toys or tears all round
thanks rob
ps excuxe any spelling mistakes;)

You're right Rob, there isn't much to be found on line about the Piper. You could try googling 'Cosalt caravans', note the spelling of Cosalt with an A not an O. You'll find quite a bit about the history of the company but not a lot on the specifics of the models. I remember the Piper 1200 very well, it's a 12 ft. model and was about the same size as the Sprite Alpine, Monza 1200 etc.
We had a 1962 Alpine some while ago but can't remember the weights, tho I don't think anyone took a lot of notice of the weight restrictions in those days.
Good luck with the van, have a lot of fun.......Mick

May I suggest that you take the caravan to your local weigh bridge minus all personal efects waterbarrels gas bottle EHU cable but leave battery and spare wheel if any find the weight add 180kgs to van weight this will give you a close mtplm figure. the 180kgs is for your personal effects gas bottle food toys cloths ehu cable etc.

My last van had a plate stating Mtplm 1347 kgs miro 1157 giving me a peronal effects load of 190kgs. but plate on chassis stated max load 1600kgs with 100kgs loading per wheel tow hitch max 2000kgs so I persume the differance was allowance for the human occupants while on site

A BPW chassis has a plate under the plastic cover on A frame near tow hitch also a plate on axle giving makers van weight on leaving factory but due to the age of your van it might have disappeared. Maybe other vanners can give info on other makes of chassis where to look for info. good luck in your search.

hi thanks for your replies i was considering wiegh bridge empty it was mainly for new tyres as some idiot in the past had put remoulded car tyres on it (some mothers do ave em). i decided to air on side of saftey and replace with new comercial tyers fit for around 750kg per tyre nothing worse than a blow out.
