Am I am being over ambitious thinking I can get about a 20% discount off RRP on all of this.
I do also have a trade in (2004 Bailey Pageant Loire with old Reich motor mover and an Isabella Capri awning). I would describe it as being in very good to excellent condition. They are going for about £5000 - £6000 at traders on Autotrader. What do you think I should get for this?
I had a swift C/Sport 586. Great van and a good layout. If you have kids it's perfect for them having there own area at the back and there is also a sliding door to get some privacy.
Best of all the shower is over the axle therefore you get a larger shower room. I am 6ft and 16 Stone and was able to shower easily.
No complaints!!
All in all I'd give the van and layout a 10/10.
Good luck!
------------- I pull it while she sits next to me!
So, Madasaman, I think I will partex it, primarily because it takes the hassle out for me. I know that it probably means I will end up paying a little more, but I think it is worth it for me and my personal circumstances. Still hoping for decent discount on the new equipment though.
Sheeprider79, I am pretty imressed with the layout. I have four kids (12 down to 4) and I think that the space at the back will be ideal for them. I did look at the twin axle versions, which basicslly have more storage midships. I decided in the end NOT to go with one of those as it would have been a metre longer than the caravan we have at the moment and I already get nervous when towing. I suppoose a towing course might help with that, but hey-ho, you pays your money and takes yer choice.
Hi chief,Remember all the extras fitted to the van come as cost price to the dealer so when he says he as included x amount, thats to you not to him, does that make sense??.
Motor mover, if your new van is built on a AL-KO chassis i would recommend that you order a factory fit AL-KO Mamutt mover.
Motor movers are after market items but the AL-KO is designed to become part of the chassis and a much stronger option. it also fits inline with the chassis and does not hang below it
Have a look at these photos, the first one shows your aftermarket mover clamped onto the lip of the chasis, the second picture shows the substantial al-ko fitting and the mover in line with the chassis.
lots of things to negotiate a discount on, make sure the spare wheel comes for free
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
I'd say 20% is a tall order, but the 2015 caravans are out in September so the 2014 will be reduced, look at the link below i've found a new 2014 for £16800 & one has just sold for £16500, I'd sell your van private and your awning otherwise you'll get nothing for it, Lets face it youll want a high discount off new but top money for your old, I'd be the same but something has to give if you go in with no px they have nothing to hide behind so cant fudge figures.
i'm sure youd get the discount of both the awning and motor mover if you shopped round as well, may be worth buying seperate to get the discount you looking for.
When I bought my Bailey earler this year, the I had to wait a couple of months to get it, few were being built. The dealer said they were still waiting for delivery of several vans ordered last October. It's all about supply and demand. 20% off a new van .... not a hope. You'll be lucky to get 5%. Got a better deal at Ropers. Teesside caravans offered a little below list. Ropers incidentally offered us a price with part ex, and a price without part ex, giving us the chance to sell privately first. This we did and saved £2k. Well impressed with the service at Ropers.
Once had a car Superguarded. Complete waste of money IMO. Couple of hours with a decent bottle of car polish will do equally well.
Check with Bradshaws (mobile caravan dealer) in Billingham. He did me a good deal on a Royal motor mover, made by Unipart. Saved a couple of hundred there. Quite like the mover. Unlike many, you can make it spin on its axle with one wheel driving forward, one back. Saves a lot of tyre scuffing.
If you go to Ropers, check the Trigano Air inflatable awning. These are brilliant, ours took just 12 minutes to take down and pack away last week. A 390cm width awning would save another £1k nearly, and no poles to damage the van in a high wind, and much lighter to lug around.
Mind you after the last Stirling I bought, I would not touch one with a very long barge pole ever again.
Thanks for the tips. In the thro's of trying to negotiate deals now. Seems Longtons in Lancashire may be in pole position when it comes to price. Interesting that I am being told that Isabella insist that dealers don't discount below Isablella's recommended lowest price.
And what constitutes a starter kit ? Worth haggling one into the deal ?
I'm not sure what youll get in a starter kit, i know you'll get discount on a isabella awning at the lawns show in september because i was offered it when i last went
What kind of discount were you offered at the Lawns Show Bessie ? At £1700 which is Isabella's lowest price for a 1025 Ambassador, any discount is worth considering.
Question is, can I do three weeks in France without an awning this summer ?
IHi i'm not sure as a % but it was around £200-£300 off the awning i was looking at, which was a 1000 opus i think ??
I have to say i couldnt go for a 3 week holiday without a full awning, if you already have a good isabella awning now why not have it extended ? I had one done and to be fair it was a really good job and unless you know your awnings you wouldnt really know

Do you really need a full awning, as I said above look at an inflatable porch awning, at 3.9metres long they are pretty big inside. Much cheaper, very much lighter to lug to France, and far quicker to erect and take down (and to dry out after a wet pack up).

As you already have a van I doubt a starter kit would give you much unless you want to renew thinks like your aquaroll etc.
We took delivery of a new Compass in February, £17500 rrp inc delivery - we paid (round figures) £16000 and got a good p/x (as in we got the price we'd seen many of our make of van on sale for at dealers) they also changed over our mover and we got an Alko wheel lock too.
Hope my memory serves me correctly... . We also looked at a comparable Eccles Sport but the deal wasn't as good for some reason (same dealer).
Chief, if you are thinking of Stewart Longton in Lancashire, they are excellent. I have bought my Swifts from them. However, you have to consider any warranty problems that you may have, and Stewart Longton are some distance from Teeside. If you should have an issue, your local Swift dealer is not obliged to do any repairs under warranty, and you would have to take your caravan over to Lancashire.
Fortunately, none of my Swifts and Sterlings - eight of them - have had any faults, but there is always the likelihood that a warranty issue might crop up.
