We are new to caravanning so are after some advice.
The caravan has a flush toilet and wondered if we should use special toilet paper that is easier to break down or will the normal sort be ok as we don't want to damage the mechanism. Also the manual says not to use household cleaner on the bowl etc as it can damage the seals. What does everyone else do? do I buy special stuff or not the caravan is a new model so don't want to damage the finish on the fittings etc.
Thanks
Sue
Concensus is that cheap value bog paper breaks down just as well the expensive Thetford stuff. You don't cleaner for toilet bowl, theres no bend or rim, just wipe over with damp cloth or kitchen towel. Spray a bit of silicone lubricant on blade & other seals or use olive oil.
hi folks thanks for all the replies so far. I have bought green fluid for the bottom tank and pink liquid for the flush but it is for cleaning around the bowl inside and out and for the seat. Also for cleaning the sink. We are going to France in the summer so want to make sure it stays clean and smells fresh! We will be using the campsite facilities most of the time but may be used during the night. Just to add there will be me, hubby and 2 sons!!

I have seen advice to put a couple of sheets of clean toilet paper in the bowl before doing a number two as when you flush the paper and everything else gets washed away leaving the bowl clean.
I use toilet paper to clean the bowl, just flush it to wet a small wad of paper and use that wet paper to clean then drop it down into the tank.
------------- We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.
I tend to use the daily mirror since the demise of the News of the world ,once used the sun ,but it got stuck and I literally had the sun shining out of my xxxx
To be honest, with a family of four, I need to empty the cassette every 2 days and have yet to see any 'break down of contents via the chemicals' in the interim.
We've always used the Elsan products and they keep everything 'nice and fresh'.
