Hi
We are going to Kent next weekend, by the time we get to the Dartford area it will be to late for a campsite, anyone know of a rest area or services that will take a caravan for about 8 hours?
Regards sue
Southbound, clockwise theres a motorway service area off the M25, take the last exit before Dartford crossing. I guess they would charge you £20 to park. I wouldn't be parking in random laybys though, its a bit of a rough area both sides of the river. I think I would drive another half hour.
West Thurrock services just before the bridge. The first services on both M2 & M20 are quite a way down but probably a better bet than Thurrock. Whereabouts in Kent are you heading?....Mick
If you want to park then stop at the services as suggested. Otherwise carrying on in the direction you are going M25-A21 theres nowhere down the A21 apart from large laybys, which would be suitable for parking but its your choice if you want to use them at night.
We often stop at the Service Station just on the north side of the Dartford Crossing for a comfort break. Unlike some of the ones on the M20 there is usually plenty of space. It is a bit of a hike from the actual services shops but its reasonable quiet.
Just for information I reckon you'll still have approx. 2.5 hrs driving after you leave the services to reach Battle towing a van. It takes me 2hrs in a car to reach Hastings from approx. 15 mins from Bridge. You need to come off J5 of the M25 and then follow the A21 all the way down.
Don't know if anyone realises the Dartford crossing is not the M25, that ends at J1, the crossing is the A282, until it meets up with J31 again.
Never stayed at Battle, bit close to home. Would sugest dropping down the m26/m20 to Maidstone services then the A229 which rejoins the a21 just before Battle.
Incidently, Battle is in East Sussex not Kent.
The Men of Kent and the Kentish Men never let Bill the Conker into Kent, hence the Kentish logo of the rampant white horse with the inscription 'Invicta' which means Unconquered/Victorious.
Enjoy your visit to 1066 Country.........Mick
