Hi I have just returned from a weekend away and fed up with paying extra for a dog, why do they have to charge when they don't have to do anything for only empty the bin weekly if that so I can't see why they can charge six pounds for the weekend plus.

They do it because they can and it makes money for them, they also do it because they would prefer no dogs.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

I agree, why charge for a dog when they do not have to do anything extra for them. I would be happy to pay something if the site provided facilities for dogs other than dog bins which on many sites do not exist or are overflowing. We stayed on a site where there was a dog wash / shower with hot water which had an honesty box. Every dog owner I spoke to had used it and put something in the box.
We decided long ago that if site owners charged for dogs then we would not be staying there. We have never had reason to change our minds.

They have to provide you with a dog walking area.
They have to keep the grass cut in said area.
They have to clean up after irresponsible owners
They have to provide bins for the waste
They have to pay for the waste to be collected and removed.

None of those come free.

If you don't like it then find somewhere else to go.

Easy solution find somewhere that doesn't charge if it bothers you that much , as Janus says they "They can and they will because its makes them money " which is there prerogative.
And because they probably don't won't them in the first place .
Neither of the two clubs charge for dog's so if your a member you could use there site's

There is a site in Dorset which has a "Pooch parlour – a wet room and warm shower for dogs."

Charge for pets?     FOC!

Many of these sites DO provide these facilities despite the contrary remarks from some. Sites with dogs may also lose some custom from non dog owners who do not wish to stay on a site with dogs.

Simple answer - if you don't want to pay go somewhere else or leave your dog at home. The site owner didn't ask you to keep a dog.

Same applies in many areas of tariffs. Some sites charge for awnings, pup tents, cars parking, boats, children, none of which actually necessarily require action from the site owners.

Do stop moaning about it.

They are not charities for campers. They have to make a profit.
A bit of research would find sites that don't charge for animals.

I have over many years encountered a few caravan/camping sites where their rules/tariffs/people skills etc are not exactly what I like.
I just never go again.
It's like hitting a finger with a hammer; best not to do it again if it hurt the first time.

Any site we have been on that had a dedicated Dog Area, it was an area where you could not pitch a tent let alone site a caravan.
So sites that were charging for the dog were simply making money from an otherwise useless bit of ground.

Like others, we no longer use sites that charge for dogs.

There's two ways of looking at it really. Firstly, we pay our pitch fees for the facilities the site provides which dogs will only use a fraction of that cost as they don't use the licenced bar, the swimming pool, take away facilities or sleep in their accomodation so the only part they use is the toilet area and if you are a responsible dog owner then you always clean up after them anyway. However, the site owners know that if you leave your dog at home it is going to cost more to put your pet in kennels or get it minded for a week so they make the dog price cost more attractive in that way.
If you ask me which side of the fence I'm on then I agree with those who oppose the charges because from what I have said above it proves that it's just a money making gimmick but they have us by the short and curlies like most businesses do so the motto is....'Pay or walk away'.
