Hi,

I have a ZIG charger that used to trip when towing 12n and 12s plug from my L200. I've towed different caravan with the truck and even had a split relay added to the OEM plug and play towing connector. However, now the charger doesn't work at all. As soon as I get back, I'll bench test the unit (not sure how to do that so any advice is welcome). I assume you just change the dura plug for a normal plug and put it on the mains.

I've tested the line from the battery to the +\- terminals on the charger and get a 12.5v return. I can't seem to get any readings from anywhere else. Could the Breaker board be faulty (as it kept tripping).

I've checked and changed all fuses and none had blown. Both the caravan fuses and the fuses for towing are all good.

The unit has a 1993 date on it, so it may just be time for a new one, but if anyone has pearls of wisdom of how these things connect up (circuit diagrams) and how to test if the quick breaker is faulty, that would be great.

Thanks in advance.

my 94 vintage one works okay when towed with something similar to an l200..

there are two different ways the van connection links up.. one is controlled by a relay in the van it senses the higher voltage and switches the van electrics off and the charger connection on..

the other has a permanent green live via a (van or car) switch in the van and the charging connection is controlled from a voltage sensing relay in the towing vehicles..

mine is connected up the second way..

i think your zig thingy is most likely faulty i cant think of any other reason for it tripping..

the idea of the voltage sensing device in the tow vehicle is to stop the car if it has a flat battery from trying to draw starting current from the van battery..

Thanks. Just put the the charger on to the mains and nothing. No green light and no 12v output at the +\- terminals. Think it's time for a new Zig.

Just so I know for next time, the battery switch has 3 positions (Caravan Battery/Off/Car Battery), which one should I have it on for towing?

The battery charges when towing without the charger unit in the system but I am not sure if having the switch in a certain position would cause the Zig unit to trip (i.e Having it at Caravan battery when towing when the correct position is Off or Car battery).

Thanks
