I'm reading through my various manuals before our maiden caravanning expedition next weekend. I'm a little unsure about the lavatory.
The instructions seem quite clear except for one thing - the lavatory blade.
The manual says the lavatory can be used with the blade either closed or open, with no indication of what will actually happen differently.
Surely if the device is used with the blade closed than deposits will just be sat on top of the blade ( a bit yuck IMO); or have I missed something. What would you advise me to do?

Hi, you can use the toilet with open or closed, means as you are actually using it. with blade open the golden stream goes straight into tank, but it does mean you can smell the fluid in tank while using it. with blade closed you can view your achievement which then goes into tank when blade opens as you flush. then close the blade fully after toilet has been used and flushed leaving nothing sitting on top of the blade which stays closed at all times otherwise. hope this explains all
If you need to do a bowel cancer test I used it with the blade closed making it easy to scoop the poo left it a little bit open to alllowe liquids to run away. Just a bit of info for anyone as the official letter suggest thst you put gloves on and catch it but much easier with a caravan toilet. Apart from that open or closed its up to you.

i think the makers like to keep users as far away from whats in the tank and any possible sights or smells as possible.. the snag is one way exposes then to whats about to go into the tank..
i recon blade open for solids no matter what thetford confusingly say.. he he..
they know the best way just dont want users to get a whiff of the tanks aromas .. before it goes in the tank its not thetfords problem how badly it smells.. he he
there can be more "lumps" floating about in there than thetford like people to be aware of..
Ive forgotten to open the blade a couple of times, usually after refreshment has been taken. Normally, i open it at the start - fumes or no fumes. I dont fancy the blade getting covered in sh....!
If you use it for solids with the blade open, then no problems.
If you prefer to use it for solids with the blade closed, then a few sheets of toilet paper in the bottom of the bowl will stop most yukiness from sticking to the bowl or blade.
Just remember to keep the blade and surrounding rubbers well siliconed.
