You just need to tell them that you have a towbar fitted that's all as some vehicle insurance companies class it as a modification and others don't. At least that way you are covered in the event of a claim.
This very day I called my insurer, Admiral, to tell them I am now towing a caravan occasionally. Said I had a towbar fitted as well and that it was there when I bought the car (second hand ). But I suspected it was aftermarket. They looked up modifications on the system and it was not in the list! Nothing to pay, but it is down in record that I let them know.
Definitely get all the details up front. You may not be insured if you don't tell them...and some companies charge crazy admin fees for amendments!
Just told my insurance recently. made a note, explained that I need separate cover for the 'van (which I knew) and didn't charge a penny. Relieved and amazed.

I changed to admiral last year and told them I had a towbar fitted, MAD springs and also a tuning chip box and it made no difference to the price. I have just renewed with them on their multi car insurance and got a good price for both our cars
