Hi I have a swift conqueror 600/ 5 birth 1991 caravan . Does any one know if it needs a leisure battery connected up to work everything even when connected to mains .
I have it plugged into mains and only some lights and the plug sockets work but some of the lights /fridge pumps etc dont work . is this because their isnt a battery connected or is it another issue / fuses ? Any help thanks

Some of the lights are 12 volt, the pump is 12v so if there is no power source they will not work. The fridge should work on 12v when being towed if the car is wired with a grey supplementary socket or full 13 pin socket.

Why do you think the fridge is not working on 240 volt? Have you switched it to 240 rather than 12v or gas?

I have only just got this caravan and its my first one . it didn't come with a battery . I have it plugged in and on what seems to be the correct settings as far as I am aware . the lights and fridge came on for say 30 seconds then went off . I looked around and checked as many fuses I can find and they all seem OK. The only thing I can think of now is that it must have a battery to keep it working. But I may be completely wrong .

We had this with a previous van. The 12v appliances/lights wouldn't work without a battery in place.

First make sure the battery leads are not touching and shorting out. It would be best to fit a battery at this point.

Plug a 240v item in to a socket and check that you still have power to the sockets. If there is no power then the main board with circuit breaker needs checking.

How do you know the fridge came on for 30 seconds? Does it have a light that shows it's working?

Yeah all the lights came on. The fridge has a light on the front then after 30 seconds most things went off . I would guess that all the things that went off would be the items that run from 12 v ie the fridge , pumps etc

You don't need a battery to work the 12 volt system but it is advisable. If it is not working then I would suggest that your charger is faulty and is tripping out when you switch on any unit. Make sure you have water in your hot water tank before you switch on the 240 volts. Your fridge will only work on gas or 240 volts when pitched and will only work on 12 volt when travelling if the car has been wired correctly.

Sounds like the 12v power supply isnt working when you are on ehu. Most new vans dont need a battery as the PSU as the ability to run the van,If you have a test meter see if you have 12volts on the battery terminals when you are connected to the mains.

Does the fridge work on 240v? some vans have a seperate breaker for the fridge and water heater.
