we rejoined last year after a 10 year gap...We have only managed to get on two sites in a year due to being full onn the dates we wanted...seems that popular sites get booked up early - not an option we have as we both work and have to get days off at the last minute. So we are not renewing....
It can be a real problem as quite a lot of C.C. members are lucky enough to be able to plan a years worth of breaks and book up as soon as they can.
Some just book dates and cancel as required!
I agree you should phone the site, I do this often as am unable to book far in advance. I usually manage to get in where I want by doing this even although the online booking shows the site full for the next 3 months in some cases.

It is a fool who has to say something.
We have just been on a five week tour in our motorhome. We didn't book any CC sites in advance other than a day or two before. We managed to book the ones we wanted without any trouble. We did book Hillhead in Devon for a week but we made three separate bookings, two nights on non awning, three nights awning, two nights non awning. Having a motorhome is easier when you have to move. We then managed to combine the bookings onto the same pitch.
We prefer the CC sites to the C&CC ones. They just seem to be better maintained.
Been a CC member 3 years and never used one of their sites. I believe the various insurances are discounted for members, which is main reason Ive renewed. Friends have told me that they are really helpful if you are ever in an emergency too. Think the CL's are good if that is your thing and the Rallying/Centre element is attractive to many people. Probably worth a go for a year
We have been CC for a few years, and also members of C&CC for one year.
I always think you know what you're going to get on a CC site, toilet blocks are similar and immaculate, sites are well kept.
We once stayed on a private site and the tent next door filled up with teenagers overnight, must have been a party and the noise, language and behaviour was awful. At 3am I was terrified, the site owner was nowhere to be found and I was in a real state with my kids in the next bed.
It put me off anything but CC sites, I was so scared (and I'm no shrinking violet!!)
However we visited Sleningford Watermill last week which may have changed my opinion, so beautiful but without the regimented CC layout. There's a place for variety for all, and the CC magazine is really useful, plus the online resources when you join.
The best thing about the caravan club in my opinion is rallying. Such a safe way to caravan with children. You don't have to get involved if you don't want to but there's fun & friendship a plenty if you do. I've just come back from a 2 week holiday rally with my oh and 3 kids on the most beautiful site and paid only £8.50per night. Admittedly there was no uhu but I have a solar panel and don't need it. Give it a try. You might like it.
We have been members for years they do some good deals , there little 5 van CL sites are great value at £10.00 to how£15.00 pounds with electrics some have showers and no added charges for children.
I have just joined the CC they seem to be pretty much the same as the C&CC although looking at their rallies they don't seem to do meets any longer than 9 days and certainly don't do many THS or similar that the C&CC does
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
