Carbon monoxide is heavier than air. If they were bunging it through the floor vents (bit stupid to have floor vents near the exhaust), how long would it take to get the van filled with carbon monoxide without anyone noticing and how much density of gas would be needed to fill the MH?
also, the amount to put you to sleep would kill you.

Of course the Gendarmerie should be looking for a gang of East european anaesthesiologists with criminal tendencies and the french hospitals would be looking for this wonder knockout drug that can be administered willy nilly with no deaths............
At 20 degC CO is slightly lighter than air,it is heavier than air at 0deg C in normal conditions it can be classed as neutral as the effect of convection mixes the gases.

And yet, in the report that the OP mentions, the family were all blood tested and found to be suffering with carbon monoxide poisoning, from car exhaust fumes.
