Hi, does anyone have metered electric on their seasonal pitch? Our site is changing to meters. I think it will be fine for us as we spend a lot if time outside, rarely watch TV etc. What are other's experiences and costs?
The law in the UK requires the reseller to charge no more than the utility provider charges them for each unit.
Thus the system if nothing else becomes "fair".
The site owner will have additional costs and they might therefore reasonably charge more for a pitch with a meter, that is permitted.
hi we have a seasonal pitch which we use for w/ends and holidays they put a 100 pounds on the site fee and give you a rebate if you do not use the full amount of electricity it is a 7.5 month site and usually get 30.00 back
Can't speak for seasonal but we recently stayed on a site in Arisaig which had prepay meters.
You loaded up a card (credit card size) at reception or from a machine in the facility block.
The card could be loaded £1 at a time, obviously as many pounds as you like.
We put £5 on the card at reception when we booked in and only required a further £1 on our last of 7 nights.
We had water heater, TV, electric kettle,microwave, lighting and fan heater most evenings for an hour or two as there was a very cold wind blowing for most of the week especially in the evenings.
So in total we used just under £6 for 7 nights but would obviously be more in winter..

We used to average £10 a month, using the van for 2-3 nights a week, early March til end October. Fridge only on when we were there, water heater on gas, so really the only electric was lights, telly and fridge.
Thanks for all your comments. I do think meters are a fairer a fairer system as some people don't use much electricity and then we have the 2 heaters in the awning brigade. It will encourage less waste I think. We should be ok.
If you use a prepayed card in a meter the site owner can charge you up to 30% more than he has paid for his supply. same as people who live in lodgings or cannot get a quartley bill from electric company they have to have a pre-paid card and pay more for their electric and gas

OOPS! made a mistake, the average £10 is every bill and as that was every 2 months it works out at £5 per month which I thought more than reasonable.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
