Traveling to The Woods CC site in Stirling in a couple of weeks time from Warrington. 1st time in Scotland caravaning has anybody got any recommendations for which services to stop at around the halfway mark please.
Hi; When we travel up to Scotland with the van we stop at Southwaite Services between junctions 41 and 42 on the M6 south of Carlisle or further up at Johnstone Bridge (Annandale Water Services) at junction 16 on the A74M.
Tenby services on the m6 is nice, very good views, it's proberly just this side of the lakes, I was in Cumbria working last week and we always try and stop there if we pass it. It's one of the best motorway services about, I travel about a lot with work so we get to see the joys of most motorway services.
Tebay services Southbound and Northbound are excellent.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.

Tebay also has it's own caravan site, never been but I've heard it's very good
Used it quite a few times for an overnight stop when heading south. It's only about 2.5 hours drive from home but means we can get an early start in the morning and when heading down to the channel ports makes the journey that bit shorter.
The site is on the northbound side but is easily accessed from the southbound service area via the service road to the hotel. Toilets and showers always clean and tidy. Some traffic noise but nothing that has disturbed me. It is surrounded by trees which seems to give it a bit dull and enclosed feel. A lot of seasonal caravans on it, wouldn't like to spend any longer than one night there but ideal for an overnight stop.

try gretna services just over the border, has a dedicated caravan park,
I've given up on Gretna as a stop, as you say it does have a dedicated caravan area but the last few times I stopped there were more transit vans, HGVs and private cars there than caravans. Became a bit of a lottery whether I could get parked or not.
I tend now just to use Southwaites, not the most attractive of areas, sharing large area with the HGVs but never failed to get a space.

That's good to know that, may use it as an overnighter myself in the future

Artel have thought about overnighting at Tebay before and realised that when heading South there was a road to link Northbound, so obviously you come back on yourself, but thought this was single track,. What about the odd oncoming vehicle.

When heading south and you enter the southbound service area you turn left, signposted picnic area and hotel. The top of this road is single track but is no more than 100 yards and has at least one passing place. This takes you onto a B road, that while narrow is not single track. You are only on that for a few minutes before turning into the northbound service area, signposted hotel and caravan site. The road does seem to get narrower after that so don't miss the turn off. I must have used the site over a dozen times and only once when heading back into the southbound area met a delivery vehicle coming the other way. No problem though as he pulled into the passing place. The only other vehicle I can recall was a police car overtaking me with lights and sirens to get to a vehicle fire on the northbound just a few hundred yards up from the services. Use could see it as we crossed over the motorway.
What to watch out for though is when going towards the site, you enter rear of northbound area, drive past the hotel and it's parking area and then on your right immediately before the service area restaurant and shop building there is a one way road to the caravan park. It would be quite easy to miss the entrance to this road. That is a narrow road but it is one way so no problems. When heading back out the site you drive up through the main service area then either continue onto the northbound slip road or if heading south turn left just after the restaurant and reverse the route back over to the southbound side.
The site is all hard standing, some pitches have their own water points.
Anything else, let me know.
