I'm a great admirer of the guys of the Parachute Regiment, without a doubt the finest in the world, BUT I wasn't aware that they were exempt from our road traffic rules and regs.
I don't particularly want to start another bad towing thread but thought I ought to share this.
Was travelling west bound on the M4 in the vicinity of Chippenham bank holiday Friday doing about 70mph solo in lane 2 overtaking slower traffic when was 0vertaken by a black 4x4 crew cab pickie towing a box trailer. The trailer was painted in the colours and carried the badge of the Paras with the slogan " Recruiting Now". As well as the speeding, was certainly doing much more than I, and the towing in lane 3, there was no reg. plate on the rear of the trailer.
I don't know if it was a serving member driving and there were no army markings on the vehicle. I got a couple of good looks as on the approach to Bristol the traffic came to a standstill and I caught up. He turned off eventually on the Newport slip. It appeared to be some sort of mobile kiosk for recruiting purposes, probably been to an event somewhere. However, in my opinion, not a very good way of advertising the Regiment. Didn't impress me anyway...............Mick
