Our new caravan has an external satellite aerial socket but we do not have satellite. We need an adaptor to convert the satellite socket to take an aerial lead which will plug into the site post. What adaptor do we need?

'F' type to UHF which you can get from Maplins.

Isn't there already an aerial on the roof. It is likely to be a triangular shaped thing with Status and a number written on it?

Unless of course you have one of the new Elddis caravans in which case the roof IS the aerial.

Thank you. We'll pop down to Maplins.
We have a Lunar Lexon with a status aerial which usually works fine. We also have an external aerial point but it seems that Lunar assume everyone has a satellite dish and that is the connection they provide. Our dealer has ordered us the connector but it's likely to be months before he gets it. We simply need the adaptor so that we can plug in from the site bollard to our exterior connection when necessary without running the TV aerial through the window.
When we tried to get the connector from a local tv dealer he said he'd got lots of adapters but wasn't aware of that one.

Assuming you have the standard UHF to UHF lead to plug into the bollard then you will need a UHF female to F type male connector to connect to the outside socket and the same again to connect to the tv assuming you have a UHF to UHF TV lead. It might be better to look for an F type to UHF male lead to connect the satellite socket in the van to the tv. The more adaptors you have in circuit the more the loss of signal generally.

Thanks David.
I'm sure we have a suitable lead. We have several that we've accumulated over the years. We've just not had to deal with a satellite connection before.
As I say, we'll pop down to Maplins and thank you for your help.

This adapter will do, it is a Push On Male "F" connector, with TV type Female socket for your lead to plug into.

35p + vat and free delivery.

My new van has in the battery box two mail connectors one for screw on satelite and the other for UHF push on like ante out of digi box. these are then wired round van to multipull socket which has 12volt female socket/240volt three pin socket plus female UHF socket  for double ended male cable to tv.

The van is also wired for a all singing and dancing Status aerial of the rotating type or a satelite dish of rotating type. The van does not come with either aerial you makes your choice and purchase, remove plug from roof, insert mast and aerial and lifting rotating device on inside and connect cable to control box in wardrobe.

I used my old UHF aerial which bolts to Aframe and run cable under van to battery box, provision is made for cable to enter box with EHU cable.

If I want to put UHF connector on stat cable (which is thinner) I use silver paper out of fag packet with backing paper removed and wrap round several times to make better earth and clamp onUHF connector a tighter fit

You dont need an adaptor, just buy a new tv ariel plug for app £1 50 for 2, and fit this to your cable takes about 5 mins to do.

We got the adaptor from Maplin for the opposite problem! We use the outside tv point for the satellite dish

Sproz that solution is fine, but I would add a Push Fit "F" connector at both ends of the lead, as the copper core that protrudes from the centre of the "F" connector can soon become kinked as it is a fit and forget connection, not really designed for disconnect/connect multiple use.

The Push Fit connectors have a rigid steel centre pin, and can sustain being connected and disconnected many times, so ideal for camping use.

They also sell the coaxial-plug-to-F-connector adaptors in B&Q, by the way.
