in September and would like to pick your expert brains about what we can tow. I've been on to what tow car site and it just gives a generic caravan since we don't yet know what we will finish up with. I drive a Vauxhall 1.9 CDTI Vectra '04 model and wonder if anyone can give a pointer or two.
We caravanned all over France and Belgium for many years but went to trailertents for a few years. To old now for those so back to a 'van. We also travel with a large GSD.
Many thanks

IF.

What is the kerb weight of the car and what is the max tow weight? If you know the weights you can check out caravans within that weight limit that fit your requirements and budget.

Id have thought you would have a decent range with a Vectra pulling it. Given its 10 years old though, id stay well within its' limits', especially if its done a lot of miles. Its amazing how you can rack up the weight once you start filling car and 'van up.

Whats a GSD by the way? The mrs wont travel without her GHD's !

My car is 10 now but been kept in showroom condition. 66,000 miles. I think the KSW is 1623kgs. I've had a look round the various ads and no-one seems to give you the weights. Don't know why. Its [ the car ] is due a major service in Sept and that means a brake system overhaul - discs and pads so it should be more than capable of the work. I was thinking around 1200-1400 max weight. That MTPMW thing.

GSD is German Shephard Dog.

I would think that your kerb weight is around 1500 kg so 85% would be 1275 ish. There are lots of 2 berths and 4 berths under that weight. If you look at Highbridge Caravans website you can search by number of berths, weight and price so that will give you some idea of what's available.

Virtually 'as new' then, and nowt to be concerned about. Your 5/6k will get you a belting post 2000 van as well. One thing regarding the mover though. Dont fall into the same trap as myself of paying a bit more for one already fitted. Barely a year later and ive forked out for a new one, so false economy.

Good luck mate.

If it is an auto you will have a higher kerbweight too, likewise with the different specs of the Vectra range, so that is something to consider too. The handbook explains how to work it all out though.

My seasonal pitch pal has the same car as you on an 03 plate, and he used it to drag a twin axle coachman around which weighs 1490kg(miro) ,i know this as I have he same Van. So you should have a wide range of vans to choose from.
