I am looking to buy a UK type touring caravan that has been matriculated onto Spanish number plates. Must have a fixed bed, end washroom and a maximum of two/three years old.
The UK is certainly the cheapest place to buy a used Caravan but the op is looking for a UK 'van already in Spain on Spanish plates. It can be done because I've seen it.
Interesting to know though why the op wants a UK 'van though, I'd rather have the Dethleffs.
For those of you that are wondering why I am after a UK van on Spanish plates.
I have a Spanish registered car and my insurance is void if I tow a none Spanish registered caravan. We store our existing Spanish registered van in the UK and use it on our frequent trips back home. We need to upgrade our van to one that is more suitable for our needs. We need one with a separate shower, which the continental vans don't often do. Theirs always seem to be a shower/toilet in the same area.
The caravan dealers in Spain are totally different to those in the UK. For instance, they do not carry a stock of new vans for you to view. You have to order from a brochure! Also, as the van is stored in the UK, if there are any problems I can always take a UK van to a main dealer for them to sort out. If I purchased a Spanish van, it's a long way to drag it back from the UK just to get a problem sorted. If I purchased a UK van, I would not be able to tow it to Spain to get it matriculated onto Spanish plates, as I would not be insured to tow it.

If its any help, when we were on a site in Spain in July the local caravan storage place was bringing in caravans stored a few miles away all the time. Plenty were Dutch/Belgium/etc registered & the man just hung his towcar numberplate on the back. Some caravans were quite new so I would guess what he was doing was legal & insured as they were being towed a few miles on public roads.
So worth investigating I reckon because it does appear there is possibly a legal way of towing a non Spanish reg 'van with Spanish reg car.
It has been confirmed by my insurance broker, local caravan dealers and the police that it is illegal to tow a none Spanish registered caravan with a Spanish registered car. Therefore, (Ron Platt thank you for trying to help) but the storage company were not insured to tow the foreign caravans and was taking a big risk.
Just a thought, the storage company may have had commercial type insurance, which I assume would be mega bucks and could only be taken out by a registered company.
