HI, the A1 from the angel of the north past the metro centre is being made into 3 lanes this work started last weekend and is on going till 2016 , a 40 m.p.h. speed limit and overnight closures are in place ,you may want to avoid this part of the A1 as it is a nightmare at most times.

We came down the A1 yesterday (southbound) around 5.30pm, traffic kept moving but slow as is 40mph, best avoid busy times, works traffic times

Newcastle / Gateshead western bypass is always a car park at rush hour so no change there - in fact 40mph would be an achievement.

Oh the joys of not driving for a living.....

We use the tunnels now when going south now.....

£1.60 a go, but you'd burn that in fuel sitting stationary on the western by pass these days....

We travelled the western bypass today, and yes your at 40mph but we went through with no problems as long as you dont go through in rush hour, its not a problem, unless like last week when a bus decided to hit a car the road north was a car park for over an hour.
