My VW has a Westfalia detachable tow ball. I discovered that, to replace just the detachable tow ball assembly, would cost approx. a staggering £400. So, the dealer fitting the towbar isn't really on the make.
Bertie.

Doesn't make sense. We've just taken delivery of a Westfalia detachable for £190 all in (PF Jones) - so, obviously, in the event of a lost or damaged tow ball assembly you'd just buy another bar and chuck the rest away in an environmentally friendly way

Ours will be fitted over the weekend - it's replacing a PTC bar that was fitted when we took delivery of the car last May. Hopefully it will be everything that the PTC bar is not!

Tow bars for VW s are not really what we are talking about here, but as an example a Westfalia swan neck bar for the Hyundai ix 35 costs £135 and a detachable one costs £235, these are prices for complete bars not just the necks, and as the previous poster noted apparently you can get a full Westfalia bar for a VW Touran for £179, which to me cements the fact that the dealers are vastly overpriced , i wouldn't entertain them , but i am sure there are plenty of people out there who think the dealers are wonderful. and maybe some dealers are fair. cheers brian
