I yesterday purchased an Elddis Crusader Storm, 2006 model, which has an onboard water tank. We took it to site last night - I hooked up the outside water drum, flicked the fill switch and the onboard tank filled up.

I then switched over to the "internal" setting, which should use the onboard tank - but when we try turning on any tap or the shower, nothing comes out and the only noise comes from the fusebox near the battery / power inlet at the front of the van, under the front seat. I checked all the fuses and everything is ok. The noise is like a loud buzz, which then stops when the tap is switched off.

Also, when the tap is tried (hot or cold), the interior lights flicker...

The van at the time was running from the EHU. This was also a private sale, so I can't just return it to the dealer - I called the guy, and apparently he assures me it was working previously.

Does anyone have any ideas / advice on what's wrong? Is it a dead battery, as I've seen mentioned elsewhere online, or is it a problem with the pump itself?

Could be anything. But, you really should have had a running demo before handing over your cash - private OR dealer sale.

The guy plugged in the outside pump which would sit in the water barrel and flicked the switch to position 2 so we could hear the pump which fills your onboard tank running - then told us how to flick the switch back to position 1 and your taps then access the onboard tank. As the onboard tank was empty, he didn't show us that part...

But yeah, I took him for his word that "everything works".

sounds like a seized up pump on the internal tank.. see if it comes apart or replace it..

you cant check everything when you buy a van new or used. :)

Thanks mate - We're heading back that way tomorrow night so was really just looking for pointers... So I'd best take a can of WD40 with me then, eh..?

Really?

The thing that I find a little confusing is there's no pump noise - the only noise is the fuse box buzzing...

The van at the time was running from the EHU.

I thought all/most water pumps ran from the 12v leisure battery, so try charging that first.

Where is the relay switch usually located?

I've read online about the battery being the probable cause, but the lights, radio and toilet flush all work - the EHU was in for about 2hrs plus - would that be enough to get power into the battery to get the taps going?

It seems the problem was the water pump - replaced the pump and now water runs freely from the taps - HOWEVER - most times when the tap is switched off, the pump continues to run. You can hear the switch clicking off, but the pump continues to buzz - the tap has to be switched on / off a few times to stop it, and that's the same for the bathroom and shower taps...

Any ideas..?

Found more faults too which i'll get to in due course!

Just an aside. If you are using the internal water tank, don't forget to disinfect it before using it for drinking water. I use Puriclean for this. Not much from Halfords for a pot, lasts for ages.

The buzz is definitely the pump "running on" after the taps are off. I think that's why the last pump had blown - the previous owner must not have realised the pump was still running and left it.

Never had an internal tank, only an aquaroll, but I would guess there should be a pressure switch to turn the pump off when the tap is closed. The pressure switch should be adjustable to operate at the correct pressure.

Where is the pressure switch located, and what does it look like..?

I can't recall anything that I would have thought would be it...
