I bought a three year old Bailey Senator Vermont (1500kg) with a Powertouch mover fitted. I have owned the caravan two years and found the mover rubbish compared to the Truma mover I had on the previous caravan. I bought a 135 ah battery and still found the mover very slow, kept stopping and ended up only working on one wheel. I asked caravan repairer to look at it and he did his best, greasing up both motors, getting them to work eventually but told me the mover was not very good and might need replacing and he told me not to replace it with Powertouch. With battery fully charged, I just about managed to get the caravan from the road, about 20 meters up a gradient into it's parking place. It performed really badly and only just did the job completely draining the battery. I think the mover may have been on one or more caravans before being fitted to mine. Is it just a bad mover, worn out or is 20 meters up a gradient expecting too much from any mover? Any advice on what to replace it with would be welcome and does an auxillary battery help?

I think you have answered one of you own questions, replace with a Truma.

its just worn out or has something wrong with it..

i have a power touch mover it would move my van for two hours and cover at least a quarter mile on a good 110 amp hour battery.. :)

your is knackered.. as you say it may have been on more caravans than yours.. i think its unfair to blame the brand when all you have is worn or a faulty mover.. :)

trog

ps.. are you brakes binding,, it would not be the first time i have tried to move my van with the handbrake on.. :)

Same here - we have a Powrtouch and it just seems to keep going for ages without any battery problems at all.

It's about 5 years old now but still performs like new.

I think yours is knackered but certainly wouldn't rule out another Powrtouch.

Same here with my Powrtouch 1, it's over 5 years old and still works fine.

Got a Carver (Truma) it was on the first caravan we had a two birth, I had it swapped onto the next caravan we had a Challenger 540. We had a new Challenger Sport last year and I had it swapped onto that it's never been a problem.

Do you have the correct  roller pressure on your tyres ,are the drive rollers worn I cant remember what type on powertouch but one type has only a covering like very coarse emery cloth, are van tyres the correct pressure , under pressure tyres make hard work.

I would check this out before you buy new as two new rollers and re-adjustment could save you about £400??  Good luck

Agree with most of the comments. It would seem the MM has seen better days. As you say it could have been fitted to several caravans and possibly not been fitted properly several times.. if a diy job???
Powrtouch would not give a 5 year warranty if they were crap. I own one and it is a very good MM.
Suggesting to change to another brand is an easy answer and I would suggest not using the person who said not to get another powrtouch MM doesn't know what he/she is talking about! As most replies sort of prove..

If the rollers are worn, they do a kit to re grit them that is what we did and it is a lot cheaper than replacing rollers.

The OP already knows Truma, fitted on previous van, and never had any issues. He appears to be a bit disillusioned with what he has at the moment, it could be repairable, it might not.
So would he buy another, or would he go for something he has had a good experience with in the past. Mmmm let me think.

VMT forgive me for suggesting another brand, I suspect if it had been anyone else, the snide remark would not have appeared.

You are forgiven... You dismissed the powrtouch that the Op has by saying buy another brand. Powrtouch are a reputable brand as is Truma so it makes sense to attempt a possible cheap fix, rather than buy a complete new MM.

It was not a snide remark it was a common sense approach to try and help the OP and hopefully an easy fix rather than scrap it (which may well be the case) but it could just be poor installation or new part required.

Don't take everything personal when someone disagrees with you

As ever your news is always old news..the big birthday was 2 years ago. Think you have been on your own in the potting shed for to long but then again friends is an unfamiliar word with you.

Now you need to behave, you are hijacking the op's thread, off to the "potting " shed with you. The workshop manuals are in the second drawer down
