How can i find out the age of a pre 1992 caravan.

We are buying a caravan that has none of the documents with it. I know it is pre 1992 as it doesnt have a 17 digit CRIS vin number.

I'd like to know the age for insurance and storage purposes and I'm not sure how i can find this out. Its an Elddis wisp 450/ct

Have a look on the nearside of the 'A' frame as that is where they used to locate the plate with the caravan details. It should state the year of manufacture and the weight but it won't be listed as MIRO or MTPLM but more than likely the 'Unladen' and 'Gross Laden' weights.

When we started caravanning in the early seventies the caravans had the serial number stamped on the A frame.You may have to take the A frame cover off if it is not on the under side as some were.From memory the first two digits were the year, ie 89 would be 1989.

the vin number is 90EL so would i be right in thinking it means 1990 Elddis?

Yes, I would suggest that it would be as 1990 model. Also Have a look at the chassis number and then give Eldiss a call to see if they have any record of it but I wouldn't raise any hopes but every avenue is worth a try.

Worth perhaps remembering that a 1990 model may well have been built and delivered in 1989.

Post up a picture of caravan if you can but 1990 sounds correct for that model. That will be close enough for insurance purposes.

I rang swift with my '88 van (sold as a 91 grr) age they were more than helpful. Just need the serial number off the van.
