we were just discussing what to do with our gas bottle when not in use.
We pick our caravan up next week, are off for the weekend and then it will be stored at home until a storage space becomes available (have our name down on a few lists)
we said we would take the gas bottle out and store it away from the van. is this what others do, do you do this in storage?
also when on site do you use you hitch lock and wheel lock?
Sorry for what seem silly questions, but really not sure on the best thing to do.

also when on site do you use you hitch lock and wheel lock? it is often a condition of insurance that these are in place
Sorry for what seem silly questions, but really not sure on the best thing to do. No such thing as a silly questions, but some of the replies may be plain daft!
they could be less of a hazard turned off and left in the vans locker than loose i dont think there is a hard and fast answer.. my van is on my own property and the bottles stay in the van..
I take our gas bottles out when we have our van in storage over winter, and keep them in the garage at home. During the season, they are left disconnected in the van.
The only reason I take them home over the winter period is just in case anything happens in the storage yard,as it lessens the risk of them exploding if there should be a fire, and allows our caravan to be hitched up and moved quickly to safety.
------------- If the moon reflects the suns light, why does it not reflect the suns heat?
assuming the bottles are turned off i see less risk of escaping gas connected up than unconnected..
apart from possible theft or storage regulations i think the safest and best place for the bottles is turned off and nicely tucked away in the vans gas locker..
As others have said.
Check with your storage about their requirements for gas cylinders, and regardless of insurance requirements check whether your storage allows locks to be fitted. Our last one (CASSOA Gold) would not allow wheel locks because they said they may need to move the van in an emergency - hitch lock was OK though.
I leave mine in the locker all the time. It seems safest and easiest
------------- We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.
We leave ours in the caravan as I am fairly sure that loose gas bottles are supposed to be stored in a proper place. Storing them at home or in the garage may invalidate your home insurance.
When I used storage the only stipulation was the bottles had to be securely strapped in locker and disconnected from regulator and valves shut or push on and lock bottles own regulators removed.
no wheel locks or tow hitch locks to be fitted (for Fire Removal ) Visiting 7 days a week no cars in compound unless by prior appointment to remove van for use.
van was always in pick up position washed ready to tow away after you booked it out. book out was key for pedestrian gate to site owner who opened vehicle gate once he knew you where the owner.
You drove in one gate and out enougher

It may, but id be surprised. You can have gas heaters in your home, and ive never seen stipulations or been asked about, when ever ive taken any insurance out for anything.
I think folk are way too cautious with some stuff nowadays. Ironically, many will have a live gas main connected to their house, yet they are concerned about a gas bottle in a yard somewhere!
