We have to make the bed up each night as not fixed. Fairly comfy, but to make it more comfy, we bought a thin memory foam mattress topper. I'm now worried about the weight of the thing in the van, and packing it away each morning into a bag. We have a zipped hold-all and it fits in ok but is a bit of a palaver to get it in! Any solutions/alternative ideas from you more experienced caravanners out there please?
Just a thought. We use Two Duvalays you are not really together as they are like envelopes but if you are over 30 or have kids that shouldn't be a problem . Jokes aside they are really comfy but a bit expensive. Ours came with a bag ( optional ) and we have Two different tog duvet parts
We have sleeping bags, sleep is important these days! Looked at the duvalays, but are they heavy and difficult to stow? I made a cover for the topper out of two double sheets and thought we could just throw it on the bed and voila! Now I'm having doubts!
Our caravan is small. One of them goes under the seat and the other gets stored out the way but if you have a bigger caravan I should think that they would easily fit under the seats . We have to make our bed up every night but it is so easy you just roll them out and thats it. We really love them well worth the outlay
Duvalays are awesome! Quality memory foam is used not teh cheap low density stuff so they are very comfy. the integrated duvet overlaps really well and is nice material and decent quality. You can flip then over to make a double, i.e the openings are on same side in middle of bed if that bothers you
They fold over either rolled up or fold into three and we put in a cover under front bench during day. Very easy and very convenient.
I have a freedom caravan, so weight and size is very important. I bought a microfibre mattress topper off ebay. It has elastic on the corners so stays in place. Lovely and warm and comfy. Its just like storing a summer weight quilt. We found the memory foam too heavy and bulky. Another plus, they're really cheap and wash lovely!
------------- Enjoy life while you can, none of us know what's round the corner!
In My last 2 berth van I bought a memory foam double bed topper from TJ Hughes for £39,99 and cut in half lengthways just the right size for each berth.
while flat on the bed in the morning I just rolled up as tight as possible then pushed roll in to supper market bag and placed in locker under bed lifted back rest off floor and placed on seating now a settee. simple.
we used sleeping bags 47" x 6'6" 38oz but never zipped up could throw open if got to warm
I thought they make them to fit the beds/ seats in caravans . Do you intend getting a double or two singles . I think I would go for the singles you can either put then together or use them as singles, also easier to store.
We now have fixed beds . But we are thinking of going back to a smaller van then I would also need a topper because my back was so bad on the seats.
rather than using the normal toppers what about using 2 single air beds? you can then inflate them to how each person likes and storage the following morning isn't a problem as they will fit easily in a cupboard or locker
We use two Duvalays and they are very comfortable but bulky. One goes in the wardrobe and the other under a bed box. Wish they had been around years ago!
Another vote for duvalays from me, we brought the all seasons set a couple of years ago and although not cheap well worth it in the end , and so comfortable
Thanks all! Duvalays sound good, but still bulky and heavy. We got a caravan to make life easier as we are getting older and creakier! Can't face all that mattress topper folding/rolling every day! We'll get there with a solution we can cope with I should think! Thanks again.
We use one of these from Dunelm. I find the caravan bed more comfortable than our home bed with it on. Very easy to just fold up and pop back into the bag, then store under the seat.
