Has anyone noticed the following statement at point 10 in the Affinity 2015 technical spec,
"Note 10: If you wish to reduce your caravans Plated Maximum Technical Permissible Laden Mass this is possible but it will be by 50kgs and will reduce your user payload.".
Does this mean that the van is actually 50kgs lighter than plated as standard?
There must be a legal reason otherwise just load less in personal equipment.
They will de-rate it to help getting into the limit for drivers with only a B licence thus reducing your payload.As if stopped it is the plated weights on car and caravan which are calculated.

I didn't think of that, I thought it might have been to bring it into the scope of more tow cars or get round some EU highway rule but it's always better to ask than wonder.
Our Avante arrived new with the lower weight option on its plate, we asked the dealer for the upgrade, as both of us passed our test pre 1997.
We were told that this was not possible as we bought our caravan from Yard Stock, and the upgrade was only available for direct factory order caravans, yet no further explanation was given, even though we asked for one.

You can make up your own vin plate & plate right up to max allowed weight of axle, ie 1300kg, 1500kg or whatever it is, there is no law against doing this yourself as caravans are not registered with Dvla. Vin plates & stamping kits can be bought.
Equally you could down rate a caravan yourself to put it under the 3.5t E licence requirement although obviously you would have to load accordingly.
