Hi, we have bought a 2002 Swift Challenger 520SE and have found it needs a spare wheel. It's got alloy swift wheels and Hankook
175R14C 99/98Q brand new tyres on. I've no idea where to buy a spare wheel from or what to buy? We are new to caravans so would really appreciate some help with this please. Thank you ;)
There are very few different sizes of trailer & caravan wheels so you will have no trouble getting one. Any large caravan showroom will stock steel rims of correct size & might also have correct size tyre fitted. If not buy rim & get tyre fitted & balanced at Kwik Fit or wherever.
It will be one of these & you need to measure pcd which is distance from stud centre across wheel centre & out to opposite stud centre, to find correct rim. You can save money by buying secondhand provided you get correct rim size, plenty on ebay & worth it if there is one near where you live & can collect. Probably best to buy a new tyre though. The rims in the link are all 5.5j which is width, I would expect your existing rims to be this but it should be stamped on rim somewhere.
Hi Roger,
Thank you very much for the advice and the link. I've looked on the link so once we measure which one we need we can go from there. I'd have a brand new tyre fitted on it anyway. Really careful with tyres. Many thanks once again for the brilliant info.

Hi
I don't know what vehicle your towing with but if it has a max nose weight of around 75 KGS you may struggle if you keep the spare in the front locker.
You can buy spare wheel hangers that put it under the axle, we have one of these on ours and that allows us to carry gas in th front locker and still stay within our limits.
Also the weight of the spare also comes out of your user payload.
Good luck with the new van we have the challenger 530 se and love it (check out photo in my gallery)
Hi pen camper,
Thank you for your posting! We have a Volvo V70 2.4 petrol. ( 2000)
In the front locker as you know, there's space for a spare wheel but the wheel isn't there. We checked underneath too but there wasn't one of those sling things either so no idea where the couple that had it kept it. We got the caravan from a caravan dealer that had taken our van in part ex. It's immaculate as belonged to a local counsellor and his wife. If we need to get a sling, how do you get them fitted?
Regards
Pete
Hi
Not quite sure how they fit as ours came with one.
I would check the nose weight of the car first as it may well be enough being a Volvo.
If you can keep it where it's designed to go then that would be easier.
I may be wrong but I didn't think caravans came with spare wheels as standard.... That's why you have to add the weight to your max payload.
carry the spare inside the caravan until it's sited, then put it in the front locker(2 minutes)money saved)dont forget,to put a commercial(van)tyre on the spare
That's a very good idea indeed! Quicker and cheaper like you say! Thanks for everyone's postings to my query! Very much appreciated and has been a massive help :-)
If you have a fixed bed (my memory of 2002 models is rusty to say the least) put it under the bed and leave it there for the service.
If they say, as one of my previous dealers did "No Spare wheel" then you know they haven't checked for damp under the bed.
------------- How come when some people visit the fountain of knowledge, they only gargle!!!
Hi, thank you for the post emmitdb,
ours isn't a fixed bed model as it has an L shaped lounge area which pulls out into a bed but thank you for the tip ( thats a really good idea- wonder if it would fit under the seating area anyway)
