Can any one help.
I've just bought a TV for my caravan.
While running it on the 12 volt battery the sound goes off when I attempt to use anything else on 12 volt.
Is this a problem with the TV or maybe a flat(ish) battery.
Any help much appreciated.

I used to have this problem a while back, every time i switched a 12 volt item on or opened a tap for water the sound would go off.
It turned out to be electrical interference.
When i upgraded the TV to one with a larger screen the problem stopped
I presume the new tv had better electrical filters, the old one was picking up the electrical interference through the Ariel and blocking out the signal.
If poss borrow another tv and try it to see what happens.

I have a 22 inch TV in the 'van at the mo and don't really want to go any bigger!
I'll try it with another 12 volt TV and see if this cures the problem!
I thought initially low charge on the leisure battery but electrical interference is a possibility too!!

is your TV a proper 12 volt model with a separate lead designed to run of a 12 volt source or 240 volt model with a reducer ?
because if its the latter there only designed to run via 240 mains .
If you want a decent Caravan / Motorhome 12 volt TV which draws low wattage you need to buy an AVTEX or CELLO
I had a 12volt to 12volt box that was on the tv lead fitted by the original owner that he told me was to cure the problem of the sound going off when the pump was used.
He said he bought it off ebay,
may be you could look there for a 12v to 12v converter.

It is a TV that uses a transformer to step down from 230volt to a true 12v not a 12 volt battery, that voltage varies dramatically. I am afraid you do not have the correct tv. Please note you have an extremely good chance of damaging the TV because of the large tolerance of voltage associated with a 12v battery.

I don't agree. Well I suppose it depends on how you define 'dramatically'
The '12v' in a caravan will vary from 12v up to maybe 14.4 when the charger is on, not dramatic in my book... Electronic circuits I build for 12v typically have a voltage tolerance of 9 to 18v.
My best guess is that the TV needs a very clean low voltage supply, a small capacitor across the supply might cure it. The manufacturer saved about 10p in its construction there.

Would concur with the above 100% , If you want a proper 12 volt TV buy an Avtex or similar .
Never had any issues with Avtex while on 12 volt supply
as there designed for caravans and Motorhomes .
If you buy a cheapo Asda / Tesco with a 240ac / 12 dc reducer they invariably give problems when connected direct to a battery
It sounds about right. All mains audio devices have a built in 'power supply' to reduce 230v mains to whatever low voltage they use & that power supply is stabilised to ensure exact low voltage output. Obviously a battery is not stabilised, hence the problem.
