and what car are you going to be towing any caravan with? and when did you pass your test? they are more important to get right than the amount of cash available
The answer would be any fixed bed caravan you can find for £5k in good nick. If you want British made then all makes much of a muchness. If you can find a German make like Hymer etc then probably better build quality.
I wouldn't have gone for a hobby if I was you, difficult to get on a lot of sites with them, difficult to insure, and more likely to be "borrowed" by a certain group of people

Its Fendt or Tabbert for the discerning traveller these days. Hobbys are down there with the Baileys & Swifts.
The travelling community mostly buy their caravans quite legitimately either direct from Germany or from dealer/importers who sell mostly to the travelling community. If this was not the case then there would not be enough Fendt/Tabbert/Hobby in the UK for them to steal.
The large German caravans for sale on ebay are often being sold on after a few years of residential use. They are unlikely to be stolen & at the age they are will be of little interest to thieves. The organised gangs of caravan thieves that operate within the UK are interested in late model(& only late model)caravans of any make, in fact stolen UK makes are easier to sell on.
With no DVLA reg of caravans & only the voluntary Cris scheme anybody buying a stolen popular UK make cheaply with a view to keeping it for a few yrs has a good chance of getting away with it, better I would have thought than anybody buying a stolen less popular German make that will stick out like a sore thumb.
So in fact it is the owners of late model UK built large & high spec caravans that have the highest chance of becoming victims of caravan crime.
You may find it difficult to get a suitable caravan for long time living for 5K. We lived in our caravan for 2 1/2 years however it was a twin axle with a full size awning.
Your biggest issue is insuring the caravan for full time living as not many insurance companies will sell you a policy.
A touring caravan is uninsurable for permanent living so its not even worth trying. You insure from a relative/friend's permanent address as a touring caravan with yourself on permanent hoiliday. Whithout a permanent address you can't have a bank account, credit card or even car insurance.
Yes you can get a caravan to live in for £5k, ebay is full of them, can do, not can don't.
