hello we have just got a seasonal pitch for next season and have been told it would be better to put a floor down not just groundsheets does anyone know what to do and we would have to put up the awning so we knew the size of floor to put down .HELP ....lol new to this but im sure you guys will know what to do all advice appreciated
Are you on a hardstanding or grass? We used to put down a groundsheet, use treated timbers to make a base and screw plywood onto the top. Some people use the sponge type squares. A lot depends on whether you will need to take the flooring up at the end of the season and bring it home or whether your van remains on it's pitch all year. We used to dismantle ours when the awning came down at the end of October, wrap it in the groundsheet and store it under the van.
My caravan is going on a seasonal pitch for the first time this year.
I am on a hard standing pitch with gravel area for the awning and plan to put 2 old tarps down first then loft boards followed by an old off cut of carpet.
I already have the tarps and carpet so will measure how many loft boards I need once the awning is up (never used it before so unsure of exact measurements once erected)
The pitch next to mine used wooden pallets with an awning carpet on top.
My friends just use those foam squares in their awning.
The same as Ronni54 & HEJC72 but we used treated strand board instead of loft boards. We got carpet from Franks, a rubber backed industrial type, not too expensive, and it folded small enough to go into the storage box we had for lawn mower etc. We loved being on a seasonal and did 5 years but now have a static.
The point to remember is the end of season it can be hard work taking up a wooden floor, i have even seen floors made from wooden pallets you name it
Consider at the end of season you have to remove all this.
If you want something easy to do and very comfortable to walk on a full size groundsheet with the interlocking foam squares on top are easy to lay and at the end of the season easy to remove. if you use them be carefull where you buy them from there is a big difference in price, the best place to buy is Costco
We were on a seasonal on hardstanding. We put down a thick plastic sheet, then a non breathable groundsheet, then a breathable groundsheet and on top a sheet of vinyl flooring. That way no damp penetrated and the floor was comfortable due to air trapped in between. Worked for us as did not see any point in using pallets like some.
