Hello everyone. Just bought a 2011 Elddis and am away for the first time. The 240v truma ultraheat thermostat isn't working. I can select the power settings and it comes on but never clicks off... As if the thermostat bit is dead. Any ideas? Are they easy to swap out if I buy a replacement? Thanks in advance. Si.
I have it set to 500w and number 5 to keep the van aired whilst it is on my drive and the green LED doesn't seem to go on and off although one can clearly feel if the element is warm or cold so the thermostat is obviously working.
Maybe it is solid state and doesn't 'click' or whatever?
AAMOI reading the manual (haha) it actually says when using electric only the fan should be set to 'position 3' and suggests that is on the 2000w setting so I haven't done that at 500w.
Can I make a suggestion?
Turn it to 2000w and highest thermo setting for a while and then turn the thermo down to lowest setting.
You should be able to feel the element shut down immediately, I would have thought and that will prove the thermostats is working.
Hi... Thanks for the reply. Tried that yesterday (burning at 2pm then turned the station down... It kept on blowing hot). I've just found access to the rear of the fire unit and wiggled the cable that comes in from the stat. I now have a 'click', yay. Just repeated repeating the earlier test. Fingers crossed...
Looking at the instructions for both the Trumatic and the Ultaheat I don't think there is a seperate thermostatic sensor on the fire for the Ultraheat at all.
The Trumatic has one just under the front at the bottom right but it looks like the thermostat for the Ultraheat it is actually in the control switch so if the element is heating the mains wiring is fine.
It also mentions the electrical unit will switch itself off if overheating occurs when used with the gas system.
This would be a cutout on the element itself rather than a thermostat methinks.
I would isolate the supply and pop the trim off the switch panel to get at the screws and make sure the wiring loom is in place and all looks ok.
They are a bit pricey so its worth getting someone with a meter to check it out before stripping the Trumatic down when it might not be that at all.
The electric thermostat is in the back of the dial switch unless someone has upgraded it to the seperate one.
If you remove the case from your fire you will see the gas thermostat bottom right hand side. If it has a seperate thermostat fitted it will be clipped to the gas stat. IF nothing there then it's in your control dial at the rear.
Well, had another wiggle of the wires plugged into the back of the fire... And it worked perfectly all night, yay. Will wait till I get home then try and remove it and properly re seat the plug. Thanks all!
I don't quite understand what's going off here? generally if the 500w setting, or any other for that matter, won't switch off completely, then it means one of the three relays is stuck on. This is actually quite a common fault,
but all otherwise working well, this could be due to 500W not being powerful enough to reach set temperature?
As far as problems go with the loom connection from switch is concerned, only problem I know of is a couple of pins on the board being bend outward due to the plug being previously 'curled' off rather than being pulled straight back to get it off?
Yes, it's very odd. 500w wouldn't hit target temp at the moment.. It's cold outside.... But on 2,000 it just kept going. Been out for the day, left it on 1,000 and 4 on the stat and it's worked perfectly. Now on 2,000, 7 on the stat, again, working perfectly.
Thanks arc. Everything worked from the offset -500, 1000 and 2000. Heat coming out...no issue. Problem was simply that the thermostat (the ring around the power selector) when turned, didn't cause that tell tale click from behind the fire - which meant that the van just got hotter and hotter. A fiddle behind the fire (where the cable goes in) - and the click appeared (when I moved the dial). I think my earlier post (where I suggested the click was back but was't stopping the heat) was premature. I think the residual heat made me think it was still blasting out heat -whereas it probably wasn't. I've taken a lot of time with it over the last couple of days (knocked the fan off so I could be sure) and it is all working well. Phew. Thanks for your help!
So, away for the second time with the van. The heating worked perfectly until this morning - then same again across all power settings - the thermostat would not switch the heating off (no click from the fire). Only way to switch it off was to turn the power setting to zero. Came back to it 30 mins later, all working again.
Where would you start looking? I assumed it was a lose wire - but I think that was a coincidence now, looking back!
