At the moment my caravan has got 2 tyres from new on and 2 newer tyres on. They are all the same Nankang Toursport 175 x 60 R14 79H are these suitable tyres as I have been told need 8 ply tyres on and if so does anybody know if these are 8 ply. I need to replace the original 2 now as out of date. Thank you

79 load rating = 437kg per tyre. So if caravan is twin axle then multiply 437 X 4 = 1748kg. If all up weight of caravan is somewhat under that figure then tyres are ok.

Caravan is a lunar solaris 2 but not sure off hand what weight is will have a look later when I go to it. Thank you for your help

As Billy above load is shared across the 4 tyres so the load rating of 79 is well within the limit for the load, unless you have a very heavy van
The tyre pressure should be 35psi
If your spare has been stored out of direct sunlight say in the front locker, its lifespan could be longer than those fitted to van,   although, you dont give an age for your van or tyres

Twin axles generally have car tyres fitted. Ours have a load rating of 490kg each as out MTPLM is 1800kg.

not according o our van they don't have car tyres on! ok I haven't got the hand book for my van as its in storage, and yes, if you have a puncture you have a bit of peace of mind you have one wheel still going around! but even so its still a lot of weight on them

just checked the weight of the lunar solaris2 and on a 2007 its 1600kg fully loaded, that's our starting weight empty!

Probably that size is not available in higher load rating anyway, not all sizes are so if thats the case then op will have no alternative anyway. Size is available in premium brands like Conti & Bridgestone if he wants to pay the extra.

twin axles vans have lower rated tyres than single axle vans.. in most cases car tyres as opposed to commercial van tyres would be okay..

its all about the weight each tyre has to carry.. with twin axle vans its usually less than a single axle van..

twice the number of wheels but mostly nowhere near twice the weight..

the pressure they need blowing up to is also directly related to the weight they have to carry..

fully loaded our van is 1850kgs I take the view that if one of them went bang then that is 600kgs on each tyre, if the average van is 1250kgs fully loaded then we would be the same weight on the remaining 3 as that is on 2 tyres if you see what I am meaning? either way I would rather have the extra margin of the higher loading and buying the correctly walled tyres in the first place i.e. not car ones! is the first step

Nankang is a cheap make of tire.I have 4 car tires fitted to my twin axle Bailey.You dont have to fit van tires on it the way you do with a single axle just buy a good make.
