its a tophy 450/5gl i have searched to find info on this van but to no avail......can anybody point me in the right direction for info regarding a suitable awning for it? and any other info i can have a read of.
I can't say specifically what awning would suit your van..... But if you wanted a full awning you need to measure the awning rail.
Use a length of string or rope.... Hold one end on the ground under one end of the rail, then run it up over the rail to the ground under the other end of the rail. You may need a second pair of hands..!
Measure the length of string, and that gives you your awning length. Then start shopping!
Porch awnings are easier as they only go along the top of the rail but you'll need to find out how long the straightest part of the rail is before you start looking at porch awnings.
Hope this helps...... Clear as mud...??

What if the Hokey Cokey really is what it's all about....?
and any awning that you like will fit once you know the size of the awning channel, measure from the front on the ground up and over following the channel and back down to the ground I think you should end up with it measuring around 850=875 cms then its just a case of finding one you like of that size
lets get this straight? you handed over money for something you have no idea how old it is? you need to check the vin number out on the side of the a frame, it may be under a cover.
a manual wont really matter, most things are generic when it comes to caravans, just google the model of fridge you have, the heating will be the little rectangular box on the wall with a red and green button?
you did get the last owners to show you everything working didn't you?
havent paid for it yet kazo, cash on collect next weekend, and for what ive paid for it i know what im getting, the owner is a biker like myself so theres a biker trust thing. not all sellers are out to rip people off.
ok another of many questions....ive been shopping for an awning in preperation, im informed my van is 870...the range being 856-885 ive almost bought a bradcot 850 as to me thats only 6 cm below the lower of the range, exactly how critical is the sizeing? same person has offered a 900 also as a choice....which would be best to get?
thank you

never mind going on trust! there is none of it about any more and esp when it comes to handing over money for anything, you must ask the right questions beforehand, so that is to find out exactly what year your van is, check that by looking on the vin plate either by the door or on the a frame, maybe under the cover then you need to check the tyres for the date as they only last 5 yrs regardless of how they look, also ask when was it last serviced? gas pipe needs replacing, the brakes, are they working fine? what about the damper? and not forgetting about the lights for towing, and that's just a start, but enough to get you home safely
and my hubby is a biker, but has been tried to be ripped off in the past from others when looking to purchase a bike

i have also kaz, maybe im too trusting sometimes, being originaly from the isle of man i guess its in my blood lol
it is an older van but was in use up till a few weeks ago, the owner wants a newer one,he has mailed me all sorts of photos and paper work is waiting there for me too, he was checking lights and water pumps yesturday.
oh please!!! no matter what please please please do not take his word for a thing! before you go to collect this caravan go and buy yourself a damp meter, and use it every where, if he objects then he will be trying to hide the fact its damp! even better would be to get someone to go with you that knows about caravans,
oh and finally erm iom thing here! my family are also living on the island, they are very famous for their bike racing right back to the tt races starting way back, had a bike shop in douglas for many years and several of them died in the flight over Lancashire back in the fifties
The 'biker trust thing is a bit naive to me.
However if it's a £ 250 van then what you see is what you get. No one will be in the least surprised should it should have problems by the score.
The only surprise being if it was fault free for that price.
I would take little on trust as far as money is concerned. The best advice given here is to take someone along who has experience of vans and TAKE their advice rather than listen to what you WANT to hear.
Don't mean to sound patronising. Good luck.
thanks for the tips, the seller of the awning has been very helpful and understanding of my "newbie" title. i have spoken several times to him over the van and awning and have taken all on board
okkkkkkkk im swallowing pride erm....i got me a lemon:(...i ecpected damp...and yeah i got it ...lotsss.
ive stripped it back niegh in to the bone..and its bad enough no more said...so....before i here the i told ya so bit.yeah i know ya did:P
..im gonna do the work....
question i have is the frame work itself....hw does that attatch to the outer? or does it? is it a case of building the frame work tight enough so it dont move or is it glued inbetween the insulation.?...i have ten weeks before our first trip was booked(was booked for tent but changed as we were getting this expecting to be able to go straight out)....i make things from metal as a career, and also as a hobby so wood work aint an issue..its how to fix em in place .....
all tips heeded, all told ya so`s treated as they should be........ thank you
