We have just returned from a little Welsh CL, a nice little basic site, but with one big essential facility missing, no rubbish bin or dry waste disposal facility whatsoever. We visited last year, a council dustbin was provided, but was also used by the perminent residents of the adjacent row of cottages who quickly filled it up with the overflow of rubbish from their own bin once that was full. This year, the bin has gone altogether, forcing campers to go and find alternative places to dump their waste. This sadly has resulted in fly tipping down one of the local lanes, where the rubbish has been thrown over a wall and down into a spinny of trees.
When the site owner came to collect his fees, we asked where the bin was, and he said it had been stollen! A poor excuse when one of his cottages was empty and surely he could have used that bin for the campsite until a replacement could be found? I dont mind recycling my bottles and cardboard waste ect down to the collection points in the town centre, but l do object to having nowhere to dispose of my kitchen waste on site, as we are rather parcial to seafood, and stinking crabshells and fish leftovers inside the caravan overnight are not my idea of fun!
Surely its a CC requirement that all CLs provide waste disposal on site?

We have found that it varies from excellent to appalling to non-existent. Actually I think it states somewhere on the CC website that CLs are not required to provide rubbish disposal.
TBH Anne, we use CLs regularly, and this is the only one where a disposal point is missing, the rest either provide and regularly empty a couple of ordinary dustbins, just like the CC sites do, or they provide a large commercial Skip, which only gets emptied when full and the hire company are called.
The Welsh site is often frequented by camper vans and motorhomes, who park up and hop on the local bus outside the gate and into town, surely they dont expect those campers to carry all their rubbish onto the bus with them, then around the town centre in search of a public bin?
Even the recycling bins are tucked away on the outskirts of the town centre, far away from the bus stops.

I rather think it would fall on Cloth ears with the owner Bob, part of the problem is that he no longer lives on site, and only turns up to collect his money, which he demands is paid in cash.
My annual subscription is due shortly, so l may have a word when l ring the CC to renew my membership, what with the bin situation and the fact that non of the TV points were working, especially in an area of poor reception anyway, left us and a fellow camper feeling rather short changed, we simply paid for a service that was not delivered.

Yes, I meant a polite reminder from Head Office, rather than yourself. The snag with that, of course, is he might decide to simply close the site and thus deprive other members of the facility, such as it is!
I have been in a couple of sites that dont provide rubbish disposal, I have just bagged it up and taken it home, never bothered me really, guess if you have a family it may be a bit of a problem.
Thats ok if your just away for a weekend David, but sometimes we go for a few weeks, although not to the site in question.
Our favourite CL is in Yorkshire, and they provide the site with 3 large commercial bins that are emptied regularly, and keep the site maintained emaculetly.

We paid out lots of money for a seasonal pitch a couple of years ago. Only to find out there was no facilities for disposing of rubbish
We cheekily took ours to another site and didn't stay for another season!
If you don't like the facilities don't go. As for the site owner demanding Cash. Every cheque incurs bank charges and some cheques are rubber. The site belongs to him and he decides what he will provide for the fee. Caravan Club cannot demand he provide any particular service/facility.
I once had a camper try to pay with a salmon. My reply Tesco won't accept it as valid currency when I pay for my groceries. He wasn't pleased!
