Sadly this is third time this week I find myself asking for help, firstly it was the issue with the overhead extractor fan, not fixed yet. Then the grill keeps cutting out and now the pump is surging about every 30 seconds. I had noticed this last season but nothing like this. I have just recently filled and flushed out the water and it seems to have made it worse . I also noticed water in the plastic tray it seemed to be coming out of one of the connectors . Has anyone else experienced this problem. Having owned a Hymer Motorhome for 3 years ( sold to raise cash for house project) with absolutely no probs it would appear from the forums that lthere are loads of complaints with all of these British made caravans however much you pay. Trouble is with the German made vans they are much heavier probably due to proper timber used instead of Balsa type wood used in the manufacture of our vans. If I had a boottomless pit I would really not want to pay £20/£25 K for a new van.
I'm sure I am not alone with my thoughts but would be grateful if anyone can help . I'm not worried about the fan, I'll buy a new toaster and start frying my brekky but this pump thing is driving me nuts.
The pump thing can be a number of problems. It can be tha the water system not being pressurised which can be down to a simple thing like one of the taps not being turned off properly, a loose connection on the water pipes, worn rubber 'O' ring at drain screw or a defective pressure switch so there is too much to list what the problem could possibly be.
Also with other problems such as the extractor fan and gas cutting out it sounds very much like the caravan is in need of a service.
JEFF is probably right. You mention noticing water in the plastic tray - I assume you mean the shower tray? This is a good place to start looking since you have noticed water. But, just to be safe, I would try to examine all the water system for a leak anywhere. Is your pump on board or one that goes into the water barrel? Either way, I would check that the one-way valve in the system is working OK, as a fault here could cause water to back-feed to the barrel, resulting in a pressure drop and the pump activating to restore the pressure.
Bertie.
On my Knaus the connector on the back of the shower tap had not been fitted properly and was leaking water down the back of the panel and into the shower tray.
It has a simple o ring seal that had not been pushed fully home.
This type of leak in the shower happened in my new to me van, thought at first it was the push fit pipe connectors leaking but it wasnt, it was a Reich tap and the have two lttle push in connectors for the hot and cold, these have a little o ring in them to seal. i purchased new o rings, fitted them and the water pool has stopped.
