We're looking for a 19" 12volt TV/CD player and are wondering if it's worth going for the expensive Avtex brand or one of the cheaper names such as Vision Plus or Cello.
I'd be grateful to hear other members' comments/recommendations/experiences.
Very many thanks.
Several years ago I bought a vision plus, after two years it broke down, the dvd would not work. Vision plus replaced it with a new one. Two years later the same thing happened so I now carry a small DVD player as well. If and when I replace I will not buy an expensive one, what I will buy is a Finlux which for the version that has a 12v capability is £125 for 19" and £130 for a 22". My brother has just bought the 22" and is very pleased with what he has. Just google Finlux to find them .

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
i have a 19" Alba tv from Argos. it is 12v with an external 240v-12v adaptor, i always run it off the 12v in the van. cost under £100. its ok but there is a time delay between pressing the remote button and the tv reacting to it. you also have to look more or less perpendicular to the screen otherwise the image is dark or in negative. 22" finlux sounds good though.
I'd agree with Janus and consider a fairly standard brand. The Avtex for example are fab sets, but they can be a bu**** if anything goes wrong. A few friends have Finlux models too and have so far been very pleased.
Check out the link, note that some models are shown as being 12v compatible. Finlux Direct
most tv's under 21" are mains reduced to 12/15 DC volts a great number come with cd player.
I have used a DMTECH for 10years but since gone digital all over UK, decided to change,
I bought a blaupankt from BM stores in Clifton Moor shopping Mall which was reduced from £109 to £99 when manager tried to ring up price till refused to take code at price eventually I got for £78 which till accepted with the code.
I have not had a single problem in 12 months and it self rejects on finished cd
It requires a 13amp socket with supplied dc 12 volt 5amp adaptor, it picks up 90 something tv channels with loads of radio channels can be used as computer screen .
I reckon I got a bargain and my OH is made up never used the Sony Dab radio fitted in van since I bought it.
We had a basic one from currys 19inch . I didn't like it . The screen had a haze if you were sat on either side . One of us couldn't see very well . Also I wasn't happy with the sound . If behind in our fixed beds it was very loud . But sat in front the sound was too quiet.
We have just bought tescos own 22inch with DVD player . It's great . The sound is much better and the picture .
I'm jot sure if this is because it's a bit bigger or the make . But I love it . So much better.
I think the make is technic it was £120 or just over . But good value .
Last year we proved a point regarding the difference between cheap and more expensive TVs n
We had a reasonably cheap TV which struggled to get a picture on a site we go to regularly. Eventually it stopped working and needed replacing. I looked on eBay and found an Avtex for sale second hand.
We have been to the same site and same pitch since then and haven't had any trouble with the picture.
Last time we went the couple next to us wanted to know why we got a decent picture and theirs was breaking up. I took our TV into their caravan and the picture was perfect.
Proves to me that if it is cheap then it probably won't be that good.
Another vote for the Cello TV's we got a 16" from Debenhams Direct back in 2013 bargain at £85 picture is fine, use it with HDMI connection from the Humax Satellite receiver.
Being campers we use a Wireless Audio system, either HeadPhones or WalkMan style HeadSet.
We have 2 Avtex tv/dvd sets, 16 inch and the 22 inch both units have superb picture but poor sound, we have been able to improve the larger tv's sound by plugging a lead into the aux socket on the front of the radio and into the headphone socket on the TV.

Problem with the new Avtex sets is that they have the speakers underneath rather than in the front. Our old TV was the same until I bought the second hand Avtex with front speakers and the sound is much better.
Very many thanks, all, for sharing your opinions and experiences, and I apologise for the late response.
We've decided to go for the Finlux, which seems to fit the bill nicely.
Most grateful.
Regards,
Peter.
We have a 12v/240v 21" Cello combo, the picture's very good and is in HD, the PVR is OK but difficult to set, the DVD works well. The satellite menu and channel selection is a pain, my wife (who's not daft) still can't find channels.
The sound, as mentioned above, is hopeless, we plug ours into my IPod speakers. The worst thing though is the cheap feeling remote, mine packed up after very little use and was replaced under warranty, the new one is still rubbish and takes a lot of faffing about to negotiate the menu's.
HOWEVER, it was cheap and Cello are pretty good to deal with. If I had to use it every day at home it would drive me nuts but I'd recommend it for camping. It's also amazingly light.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
