So, Friday saw us hitching up and taking our (new to us) van on its first trip to West Wales.
Traffic was awful with it being bank holiday weekend, so we didn't arrive until 7.30pm, but fellow caravans were very helpful in getting us onto our pitch - we did tell them we were first timers!!
We thought we knew how to operate all the equipment, having been talked through it, and studying the manuals - how wrong we were!
We managed to trip the electrics, but we think there is a problem with the water heater, as the electrics would trip the second we switched it on. This happened on 3 occasions, so we admitted defeat, ran the heater off the gas which worked fine, and boiled the kettle for hot water. The electrics worked fine for lighting and fridge.
We had had the van serviced only 10 days ago and all equipment passed, so this was a surprise to us, and we're not really sure what to do. We will contact the service people and ask them what the problem could be, but in the meantime is there anything anyone can suggest.
The water heater was full, and the trauma heater working fine via gas implies there is no problem with the heater.
We enjoyed our first trip, but obviously spent more time than we'd liked trying (and failing) to sort this issue and want to get it right for our next trip at the end of this month!

without knowing what you had running on electric at the time it is impossible to say what went wrong

Sounds like a faulty water heater element, quite common and it may not have tripped if the water heater wasn't full when they serviced the van.

I had a couple of water heater elements replaced in my previous van. Tripped as soon as water heater put on tripping both the internal switch and the hook up point. Pretty safe bet that is your problem.

Thanks, the person who did the service thinks the same too, he's coming to look at it next week!
Would this also cause the problem with the heating only working off gas and not electricity?------------- Rhian, wife, mother to 4 daughters, and now a caravan owner
