Just had a great weekend away in my new caravan, never owned a van myself but been in them loads when I was a "wee nipper" :D
Absolutely loved it and cant wait for my nest trip away (probably to the same site as it was that good), slightly annoyed with myself though as I put a small dent in the side of the van when I was putting the awning up, the pole slipped out of my hands :(
I'm in two minds about the dent, its just above the battery box and small enough that from about six feet away, its invisible, but I know its there. Could get it repaired, but no doubt that will be expensive. On the other hand I could just get a couple of reflectors and put them on both sides.
If anyone is interested, the site I went to was called Finchale Abbey in Durham, fantastic little caravan park next to the river. It has a couple of peacocks (well one peacock and one peahen) and a flock of guinea fowl that looked very tasty :D Best of all adults only, so no little nippers running around screaming their heads off.
glad you enjoyed the weekend and i guess the lack of kids made it all the better, they do ruin a good trip away :o)
dont worry about the dent, it will be one of many more.
first time i washed my van the hose brush i was using popped of the hose fitting. bounced off the ground and dented the side of my van. i dont even notice it these days.
First scratch/dent in anything is always the worst, dreading ours, just hope I do it and not the wife otherwise she will never hear the end of it!
Glad you enjoyed your weekend away. Looking forward to our first caravan trip at the end of May.

nice one (not the dint) hope you will enjoy more to come (not the dint ) i worked at caravan place few yrs ago we hind dints with reflectors that stick on
Brushed against foliage a few weeks ago navigating very narrow lanes in the lakes (getting to Hawkshead). Light marks on side of van but took off high level tail light on one side. Only £7 for a new one though and now it's not perfect I can relax a bit.
------------- Camping Gear expands so as to fill the space available for its transportation.
a few dents an scrapes is part of using a tourer.Like having a nice house but lived in and not a show house where you darn,t sit down.just enjoy the freedom, and prevent anymore dents by getting a air awning.Theyare great and thats why i got one,my poles tothe old awning was scratching the van.
------------- i dont sell cheap tat.I sell tat cheap
I looked at the air awnings, but from what I could gather you can have an annex on those, and because I go touring with friends and relatives, I need an annex.
Hi
You can get a annexe for the Kampa fiesta air awning and a sun canopy.
We bought the fiesta air pro earlier this year and it simple enough to put up but you do need 2 people to push/pull it round the awning rail.

Great site, but the people in the statics were a bit rude to my wife and I when we went to look around and we were met with...""oi this area is for residents only, can't you read, are you stupid?"
Site owners very helpful, particularly when I lost my barrier key ( turned up day we were leaving - always check ALL trouser pockets !)

oh my god, that is not acceptable.i would have told them where to go.This is why i prefere tourers only, and tents, that way you get nice people who muck in.not snobs who look down on you.And before anyone complains,i do know some very nice people who have statics.I just cannot stand rude people.

Hi. we have the same problem but have a ring at one end of the awning rail use our "washing line" tied to this and the OH walks away with it (from a distance so its a very shallow angle) pulling the awning round while I feed it up and in... very easy...
Heading off myself tomorrow for Killigruer ,Kintyre. Sold my van last year after more than 20 years of touring and made a big mistake. So, bought a wee 2 berth second hand unit and have spent the last month loving and restoring some faith and happiness into her. Now ready for the road cannie wait and just as excited as if it was my first trip....
