Hi all. For the first time ever our (75cms)
satellite dish seems to be failing us. We are on site in Ashburton in Devon and although we think we have the right angle etc it won't lock on. We had it briefly and then 5 mins later completely gone. Hubby's been doing this for 5 years here and in France and only once in Ardeche have we ever struggled and even then we had partial signal but we are getting nothing here? Any advice welcome as we were looking forward to our Eurovision BBQ later ;)
Are you sure there are no trees in the way? a combination of wind and leaves can make this happen. Otherwise, I don't know...OH says it might be the cable, you may need a new thicker one or is it not properly connected?
Could be a faulty LNB, they often only partly fail, usually loosing one of the Polarity, or not reacting to the 22khz Tone which selects either Low or High Band.
It could be the the Receiver, especialy if it is a Sky box, did you give the kit a test before you left home.
Sky box's are famous for PSU problems.
It is obviously not the Dish size, as one half that size would do the job in UK, but I appreciate that you also use the dish in France.
Is your Dish calibrated, and do you have the ability to confirm it's Angle of Elevation with a Digital Angle finder, another tip is rather than use the Calibration markings on the Dish, it is best to fit your own Calibration plate to the Dish.
When you get problems like this it is always handy to have a spare LNB and a Meter, somthing like the SatLink 6906 which in effect is a small self powered receiver with a built in screen.
At the end of the day, so long as you have clear line of sight, you will find the satellite, so it has to be a problem with the kit.
Hi Francais, we have all the afore mentioned kit angle cube and sat finder. We used the kit in Wales at Easter and it all worked a dream. We will have another try today I hope it's not the lnb as that's not something you can pick off a shelf in Tesco!! And the LNB is for this kit too.
Unfortunately Mrs Bonce there's no freeview signal to be found either!!
😟
Thank you Francais you are my hero of the day!! It was indeed the LNB and a quick trip to Maplin has put our Eurovision night back on track. So thank you 👍
Yep, well done Fiona, I bet you will be carrying a spare LNB from now on, not sure what you paid at Maplin, but CPC do them for under a fiver, and there are loads on EBay, Invacom and Inverto being the best of the bunch.
When I was at Sky the failure of LNB's was quite shocking when they moved from Philips to the much cheaper Zinwell brand, upto 1 in 100 were DOA in the box when new from the distributor.
Needles to say plenty also failed within a short time of installation, however I think the quality of the Zinwell LNB's since my time at Sky may well have improved, as my home Dish has a Sky Zinwell Quad LNB, and that's been up since July 2013.
