Ok I bought a cheap £5 multimeter today and it shows 4.5v
Is this gone?

Yup Jim that battery is shot - new one required.

Don't forget to make sure that the internal 12v items work when not on EHU after the battery has been fitted so as to prove other faults aren't present.

a new battery is not a bad thing anyway.. even if the old one reads 12 volts plus it could still be 95% worn out.. he he

a multi meter will tell you how any volts the battery has in it but it wont tell you how knackered it is.. :)

but a cheap multimeter should be in everyone tool kit along with the hammer and pair of pliers.. he he
