Moving from tents to caravans is one of the best decisions I've made, but in tents I used to cook outside (with a tarp for shelter if necessary) so cooking smells was never a problem.
In a caravan of course it's different, even with roof vents and windows open to create a breeze.
How do you get over this? I'm wondering about installing an Omnivent, are they any good and has anyone done this?

I had an omnivent in my previous caravan and just a roof vent in my current van. I was always conscious about forgetting I had opened the omnivent. My choice is just the roof vent and kitchen window open a bit. Never found a problem with smells lingering.
We have one in our van, it came with it as original equipment and works well. I like them but the fan & screen mesh get mucky from cooking oil etc as it's directly above the cooker and needs cleaning at least once in a while, small price to pay for the good job it does.

Mark Twain.
Omnivent was standard in our van and I've been suprised at how effective it is. It also draws air in too, which can create a pleasant breeze on (rare) hotter days.
Only caution is that because the opening section is partly obscured from view by fan etc., you do need to be on the ball to check it's closed when not in use.
We cook in our van and open a window by the cooker and turn the omnivent on and never have a problem with smells. I suppose if you are going to cook really smelly food then you might have one.

If you can find one with the manual switch, it should be okay. The new ones with the electronic switch are rubbish. We are on our third one in 4 years.
However I am told that they have now done a modification so consider taking a chance as it has a warranty for a year anyway.
As well is two words!

Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Had omnivents in the past 5+ 'vans and wouldn't be without
it now ... the last two have been the electronic touch switch, both have been well used and given no issues.

It's the original one, and the fan had come loose from the 'key'. Wasn't in a hurry to repair as we hardy used it.
To fix it though, it was a whole unit removal from van to repair, which I did recently when I resealed the whole van. Newer versions I think, you can just remove the fan unit for servicing / cleaning?
Was able to give it a proper damn good clean too when removed and on the work bench during the reseal.
