You can park at the Portsmouth ferry terminal but not for the whole day I don't think.

I am assuming the continental rather than IOW ferry.

There is quite a lot of space in the ferry port but you would need to negotiate not leaving it in the "working" lanes, so I would inquire with the port before planning that for an extended stay.

You could also talk to the Portsmouth "Park & ride" people as that offers a close by facility with buses into points of interest such as the historic port/Gun Wharf key area. I have no idea if they are willing to cope with a caravan unit, but it is worth exploring.
There are A34 and M27 service areas I could suggest but a long hold up in these I think will drive the lads to distraction.

Parking at our port in Portsmouth

Parking is available at the port at £10.00 per 24 hours. Caravans and motor homes can be parked 'overnight' in the car lanes provided they do not interfere with loading for any departures prior to that which you are travelling on. There is no access to toilet facilities during the night.

Waiting is not allowed outside the terminal. There is a short/long term supervised car park (CCTV security cameras also in operation) near the terminal. The car park is well signposted within the port area. Charges are as follows:

Portsmouth ferry port car parking charges
Duration     Fee
Up to 2 hours     £3.00
Up to 4 hours     £6.00
Up to 8 hours     £9.00
8-24 hours     £12.00
Up to 48 hours     £20.00
Additional 24 hours     £10.00
Motorcycles     FREE
The car park is privately run by APCOA who can be contacted 02392 873378. Lost tickets will be charged at the full daily rate

this might help

The paid for port parking will not be an option if you have your van its a multi-storey!

the lanes within the marshalling area will be ok but they only really like you staying there if you are on the next boat ( or overnight if you are first thing in the morning)

So IF you intend arriving after about 16:00-17:00 , that will help as that way you wont interfere with the Condor sailings ( mostly gone by 16:30)

AND you are on the 20:15ish St Malo crossing

(Possible other issues are Tues and fri there is the Santander boat at 17:00)

what they will get stroppy about is if you are there at 18:00 for the 23.45 Le Havre overnighter. as there are possibly 5 other crossings before yours and the yard can get busy.

I asked the same question to Brittany ferries as I was going to be at the port for 18:00 for the late Caen ferry as the rest of my party was going to be on the St Malo , and that was the advice given ( with no guarantees just that's what they are normally ok with)

and a recommendation ( if your happy to leave Van ) to walk around to the ship ( about 100 yrds away)for food
