Having just bought a bigger caravan it is bigger than my full awning from the previous van, I thought I would look into doing the "combo conversion" thing because a new awning is out of the question. There are lots of posts in various forums about how to do it and stating that Isabella and NR awnings do a kit for just such a operation.
I have searched the Isabella site and have found nothing but the instructions how to do it but not the actual kit, the NR site brings nothing up at all so considering that I wouldn't be able to afford the Isabella kit I thought I would give NR a ring (the only UK manufacturer of awning).
Saturday 12.15 .... answer phone message .... "we are now closed, our usual opening hours are Monday to Thursday 9 til 5 and Friday 9 tip 12.30 ....!!!!!
In this day and age I find this a bit of an outrage .... in a hotly contended market place with some big name competition wouldn't it be advantageous to at least be available. The next thing we know is the shops will be shutting half a day on Wednesday and early closing on Saturday .... !
So rant now over .... can any one help with my search for such a kit? I see there are a couple on ebay but they consist of only the poles and no padding or "double click strips" I guess if push come to shove I could get the bits together and make up the kit myself but my little singer sewing machine wouldn't cope with foam and canvas for the pads.
Shops are much worse in France, the opening hours seem to be random... and short, also you can forget Sundays. It was nice to get back and see things open.
(I find this a bit of an outrage), so do i, i think everyone should work 7 days a week like you do????
I also find it an outrage that people can not find the energy to phone at another time when there is someone there
Its also an outrage that every other country will have there businesses open 7 days a week.
Shame on the British for being so lazy in wanting time off and holidays etc
early closing on a Wednesday and early closing Saturday Brilliant idea, then again im British.
Even when phone lines are manned 24/7 the out of hours staff usually know very little so for specific technical info as required by the op one would need to phone in office anyway.
For your information I do work 7 days a week as I am self employed ... if I didn't answer the phone I wouldn't get any work. I really don't think your arguments stack up in the modern age. Shopping centres second busiest day of the week is Sunday and if your site warden and cleaning staff downed tools at 12.30 on Friday night and sat watching everyone for the next two and half days you would be the first to complain. Get real, if you work in the leisure and supply industry then you should be available when people use and want and those services.
I think kojack has definitely (got real) im sure he works hard to have a life where like millions of others workers, work hard to have the leisure time, that they have worked for.
If you work 7 days a week thats a credit to you for having to do it, but the majority of us i think would agree leisure time is very important to avoid the over stressful life, and the problems that it brings.
Nr awnings that you rang is a factory and not a shop and i find it hard to see why you see it as a problem,if you see it as a problem buy from the internet.
Truly British do you really think its better anywhere else??? so i would say to you, get real
It's a damned good job you aren't running the country or we would along there beside Greece.
At the end of the day NR awnings , because they weren't available at a not too unreasonable time, have lost out on a sale. if companies can afford to do that then that is fine by me. NR Awnings is a factory ... it is also a supposed to be a business. It has a web site with a phone number... the information I required was not on their web site .... so I phoned the phone number .... at mid day on a Saturday. I could have phoned my bank, the AA or RAC, Asda, Tesco or Adli, Halfords, John lewis, the list is endless and they would have ALL answered the phone on a saturday at mid day.
I am not for a minute suggesting people should work seven days a week, that would be ridiculous ..... but common sense would suggest that some one be available. I wonder how they do it .... oh yes ..... the staff get alternative days off.
At the end of the day I spent my money with a company that could answer the phone and find the answer to my query and phone me back even On A Saturday, end of story.
WOW.why so upset its just another persons opinion thats what the forum is for.
seems a bit OTT just because you could not contact someone on their day off
like you said end of story, now lets keep it friendly, enjoy your caravan and the product you required
There are companies that will add some to your awning but there is a limit - not sure what it is but I think it is only about a foot in total on the width of the awning. (Not the total length) They put a 6 inch triangle at each end of the roof section.
I like the idea that it is "an outrage" that someone isn't there to answer the phone when you want.
The massacre on the beach at Tunis, now THAT was an outrage.
What the OP suffered was a bit of an inconvenience,
You can either have your awning made into a porch or extended . Either or . But if extended don't forget your poles may not fit . We changes our van for larger . I now have 3 awning . But we did buy a large porch that will fit most vans incase we change again. We also have a very small NR porch for week ends . Or short stays .
Thanks for your suggestion Avon Eagle but it would need a bit more a foot to make it fit.
Cheers Nora ... I have a light weight porch awning for short stays and the old one was a nice size as it was so I have gone down the porch conversion route and i must say it has worked remarkably well.
