Hi

I have a 1980s Perle as a fix-up project. The van had been kept in woodland for ages and has suffered vandalism to windows and roof - so it ain't pretty.

It seems that something heavy has 'fallen' on to roof near skylight causing a depression about a metre square.

Has anyone tried removing outer skin of roof to replace/repair timber frame on similar van? If so please let me know how you went about it and if there were any surprises once started.

Seems like you have taken on quite a project there. Avondale (later models) had a fibreglass roof. Is yours fibreglass or a metal skin. If it is fibreglass you will need to buy the sheeting etc. You will also need a sheet of ply to paste it to. A boat repair website should have it on sale.
(Fibreglass roofs are easier to repair than metal ones)

I think the best thing to do is just take it off and have a look. Most older caravans are built the same - with a wooden frame. Should not be too difficult to repair/replace it.
